Let’s talk about Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp!

10 / 25 / 17

So, chances are, you already know there was a special Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct late last night (or early this morning for those in the UK), but if not, I highly recommend heading over to watch it. Also, go pre-register now if you haven’t yet.

I mentioned a while back that I was a bit apprehensive about an AC mobile game. Not because I didn’t think it’d be good or my general aversion to mobile games, but because AC could easily fit into a lot of terrible tropes in mobile gaming involving awful energy bars, lots of waiting, and not much to do or even being a very puzzle focused game focusing more on minigames than any of the big aspects of Animal Crossing itself.

In a way, I was partially right–the game does seem very “Kingdom Builders” style with its crafting, earning craft materials through quests and gathering/general grinding, and building up an area, but the thing is: There’s no energy bar in sight which is a really good thing. And while some things WILL have a timer (Amenities):

The good thing is there will be a lot of other things you can do in the meantime. You can fish, you can bug catch, you can gather stuff, you can help villagers, you can craft some other things.

There’s so many options and with the game being real time too, you also have a lot of time to do it.

While you’ll mostly be customizing a camp site, there’s a lot of great new interactive items–a pool, a merry go round, a skate park… And seeing the villagers interact with them in all new ways is just really awesome??

I love seeing things get expanded like this and making the villagers feel more real in a way.

Speaking of which, friendships you can grow with villagers! I love that you can essentially lure them to your camp site and then they can continue to show up randomly for you to befriend.

I think my only worry is if they may lose friendship if you don’t play for a while. I really hope that isn’t the case (and they didn’t say anything that made it sound like such a thing), but I can’t help and worry regardless. I hope I can befriend every villager though–especially my favorites.

Catalog completion also makes a return!

Which is always a favorite past time for me.

Of course, a mobile game can’t be a mobile game without some micro transactions :P Regardless, I don’t think they look too bad. Leaf Tickets can be used to get things like nets (makes fishing easier), honey (makes bug catching easier), speed up things, and/or craft even if you may be missing some items. You can earn them ingame as well.

The prices genuinely aren’t terrible though.

Also I love the net and honey features and I hope those make their way into a future AC game.

Finally, I’m SO happy we have our own little “house” to decorate??

Sure, it’s just a mobile trailer, but you can decorate the inside, outside, and even upgrade it and I’m thrilled with that.

But yes, I can’t wait until late November for it :) I’ll rush through Ultra Moon and hopefully have Super Mario Odyssey done by then and the game can help distract me from my sadness about Style Savvy 4. With it being real time, I’m looking forward to spending a lot of time in it ^___^ And seeing what other new things await. We already saw some new NPCs with the trailers, so who knows if we’ll see some new villagers in general. I hope there will be nice new clothing too!

On the latest Nintendo Direct…

9 / 13 / 17

In general, I went in expecting nothing so I expected to either be pleasantly surprised or okay with whatever was shown–maybe some things would excite me, but I wouldn’t end up upset or frustrated or disappointed. AND YET SOMEHOW THAT HAPPENED ANYWAY…

Before I get to that though, you can check out the Nintendo Direct by clicking here. I’ll also talk about some of the other things first before I get to why I’m frustrated.

So, for one, we got some new Pokemon news… And I’ll admit, I just… don’t care. At most, I’m excited for new customization and Pikachu Valley which looks really pretty:

I’m just really hoping for better hairstyles especially. And it’d be nice to see other Pokemon costumes like a Mega Audino lolita-princess dress, but Mega Audino never gets any love so I don’t know why I’m hoping.

But… I want to know if the story is actually a new tale or if it’s just added areas. That’s all I want to know and that’s the one thing that is constantly being stepped around. I don’t care about new Pokemon forms. I’m tired of new Pokemon. Pokemon fusion is dumb and I didn’t like it in B/W2 either. I just want to know if the story is different because I don’t think I want to play Sun/Moon again otherwise.

Next up is Lady Layton/Layton’s Mystery Journey which will be coming out for the 3DS early October. Even though I bought the Mobile version and all the DLC, I’m much more excited for the 3DS version and the Flora costume:

I still wish it came out worldwide here like it did in Japan :/ Considering it’s supposed to be the same content and the mobile version is voice acted too, I don’t really understand the delay.

Then I was very surprised by the Mario Party announcement…

I’m curious if it’s just the minigames or has an actual normal Mario Party mode too with favorite courses. I’d really like that, though, I think I would’ve preferred to see this on the Switch then the 3DS.

After that, was the Snipperclips DLC announcement which looked fun, some stuff on Dragon Quest Builders coming to Switch which I still want to try, and Project Octopath Traveler which looks interesting, but I’m still not sure if I’d personally play it.

We then came down to Super Mario Odyssey stuff which I’m just so excited for.

The worlds look amazing. I can’t wait to collect souvenirs:

And between the playing with a dog and jumping into paintings (I have so much love for Super Mario 64), it just looks so good and I can’t wait.

I also really like this pouch and kind of want it, even if I’d prefer a different color:

Now onto why I’m so frustrated… And the answer is, well, this:

A trailer for Girls Mode 4 (The Style Savvy series here) which was also showed during Europe’s Nintendo Direct as New Style Boutique 3, but absent from the US one.

It comes out November 2nd in Japan and November 24th in Europe. And maybe eventually in the US? For reference, the last game came out in April 2015 for Japan, November 2015 for Europe + Australia, and August 2016 for the US–nearly a year after Europe’s release despite it being a literal port using European terms, brand names, and spelling along with other edits they made (such as appearance changes to the characters).

And so that’s what I’m expecting here. Maybe we’ll see it in 2018, who knows, but I’m so angry about it because I LOVE that series and for some reason, we’re not also getting it in November? We are already ignored for the DLC by quite a bit. Why does Nintendo of America hate this game so much? I really want to know. I’d love to be receiving it November too, even if it’s just a port, but if we’re not, at least bother localizing it this time. Or explain why we’re once again stuck waiting.

Personally, I would’ve rather seen it on the Switch than on the 3DS again (and it’s only been two years since the last one in Japan… And I’m guessing because we got 3 so late is part of why we have to wait longer, but I genuinely don’t care and just find this upsetting), but it still looks really nice. There’s a new vocalized theme song, your choices have a lot more influence on the game’s stories, and the cutscenes look more varied too.

But we’re stuck waiting. Again. For who knows why. And it just… it really sucks. I’m not going to get a European version just to play it, but I just… need to impatiently wait for now I suppose. :/

Anaheim Adventures – Disneyland and Pokemon Worlds

9 / 4 / 17

So, I’m still a bit out of it, but I wanted to go ahead and write up about our trip about two weeks ago! In general, it seems I’m still kind of hit or miss when it comes to going to Worlds… but we’ll get to that more later.

We left early Thursday morning. I took a picture because I thought the sky looked pretty, but the picture kind of sucks. You get to see it anyway though :P

The flight was… not too great, unfortunately. It was bumpy, our allergies were sent into a mess due to someone wearing too much perfume, and we ended up getting off exhausted.

To make matters worse, we took the wrong shuttle to the hotel and after driving around for nearly an hour around the airport because the driver wanted to find another party first, we finally headed to the hotel. Thankfully, there wasn’t much traffic, but that didn’t stop them from charging us a ridiculous amount… It was nice to reach the hotel since we were both just… exhausted between how the day had gone so far.

Some kind of update (And Miitopia things)

8 / 11 / 178 / 11 / 17

It’s really been a while, hasn’t it? I wish I had a reason why or some kind of explanation to give, but I… don’t. I really don’t. The short version, is I haven’t felt up to playing much of anything or even doing much of anything and if I don’t have any motivation to do anything, I don’t really have anything to write about, do I?

But, I did promise to put up some pictures from Miitopia after what happened–if you don’t really watch my videos and just read here for the accompanying game log, the short version is my computer crashed shortly after finishing and over 3 hours footage got lost with only about 45 minutes I was able to salvage no matter what I did. I tried every single option I usually did, I tried new things, I STILL have the useless full files to keep trying, but when it comes down to it, I can’t find any way to save it and it sucks. I didn’t even take tons of screenshots because I figured I’d take more after only to lose everything.

And considering I played the whole first part of the game after the demo with rescuing the Princess’ face, I’m just… so frustrated and defeated. I haven’t even picked the game back up since. In fact, I haven’t really played much of anything.

The list of games where I have stuff I want to do and just haven’t been doing so has definitely gotten bigger:
-Splatoon 2 – Finish story mode
-Breath of the Wild – Finish Korok hunting. Still haven’t even tried the DLC despite having bought it.
-Fire Emblem Echoes – Still at the start of Chapter 3.
-Happy Home Designer – Still have houses to finish
-Disney Magical World 2 – Need to do all the parties for 100%
-Fire Emblem: Heroes – Haven’t played much at all since the first Tempest Trials. Characters I want and maps to do, but…
-Abyssrium – Struggling with their Anniversary event because the grind is ridiculous.
-Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles – Haven’t played since the first time. Still want to finish a lot of things.
-Star Stable Online – Want to catch up on the story mode.
-Miitopia – Want to finish the game.
-EverOasis – Want to finish the game.
-Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns – Want to get all towns to S rank and have a kid.
-Goetia – Want to finish the story.
-Lady Layton – Finish the story and all puzzles.

And that’s just off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more :/

Lately, the only thing I’ve been doing is a silly project for a set of mangas I have in French–I’ve been slowly translating them into English with the little French I know because:
A. I want to read them
B. There isn’t really a second reason

It’s been an… interesting project and it’s improved my French a lot, but I genuinely haven’t had been feeling up to doing anything else and even as I approach the end of that, I’m struggling to stay motivated for that too.

I do want to say thank you to all the positive messages I’ve gotten on Twitter, Ask.fm, facebook, and other places though. They’ve really been a nice ray of light for me and I don’t really have words t say how much it means a lot. All the birthday wishes last month were a huge surprise too.

I even hit 5,000 subscribers on Youtube which is pretty cool, though, also makes me feel worse I haven’t uploaded anything in about 2 weeks. And I don’t know when I will. It’s kind of hard to upload something when there isn’t anything to upload.

Literally the only things I’ve played recently are things my husband dragged me on for. And even then, I wasn’t really having fun. I was just playing because he forced me to. And even if I don’t talk or anything, I feel like it’s pretty easy to to tell if I am or not (I mean, just look at how Fates went by the end of it–I was so frustrated with that game).

But yes… back to Miitopia which is probably the main reason anyone is clicking this entry, these are some of the pictures I took which likely didn’t make it into the video:

I wish the gifts actually appeared in the room.

Also, these were likely in the video but I’m including them anyway:

I describe a lot of things like this.

Yes, I made myself the Princess. I am always the Princess in my world XP NOW IF THE PRINCESS WASN’T STUCK BEING BLONDE… ;~;

There was only one appropriate Prince option.

And then this is where we finished off:

I took like 50ish pictures total, but it really doesn’t make up for nearly 3 hours of lost footage :/

I’d like to say I hope to get another video up soon, but I genuinely don’t know. I haven’t even gotten my Mega Audino collection site updated and I have 4 things to add there as well… Along with a big update I want to do to the custom section.

I’m hoping to TRY and do that along with finish this translation project by Wednesday and if I have time, maybe force myself to play something (likely Miitopia). Why Wednesday? Because Thursday, unless something changes at the last second, we’ll (my husband and I) likely be flying to Disneyland to meet up with some friends and things. Oh, and Pokemon Worlds is happening but knowing me, it’s less for that. Unless there’s Mega Audino being amazing again, but my hopes are low. On the bright side, maybe we’ll actually be able to take a look this year. If we feel like it.

We’ll see though. This is mainly just to say “hey, I’m alive even if I don’t feel like I’m doing anything worthwhile” with some Miitopia photos as promised and stuff… but hopefully I’ll have more to say soon…

In which I talk about Layton’s Mystery Journey & World Puzzles

6 / 20 / 17

Or, more specifically, Layton World. Recently, a special site has gone up for people to work together globally to solve puzzles.

It definitely has a few kinks to come out, but as someone who loves mysteries and puzzles (and I especially enjoyed the Gravity Falls Cipher Hunt that happened last year), I was so excited to see this.

Accurate representation of me and my love of mysteries and puzzles

Besides just having fun solving puzzles, you can actually unlock items that can be sent to the game.

I’m really hoping to be able to collect them all!

The puzzles are supposed to be spread out in a period of three months so essentially until around when we’d get the 3DS game I suppose. At this point, I think I may need to just get both versions of the game. I don’t think I’ll regret it though.

For now, I took the time to set up a Tumblr for all my Professor Layton World Puzzle Solving because it’s fun to write it out and take it slow sometimes, especially when I have to wait two days for my next puzzle XP

But yes, clearly I’m excited and I really hope lots of people will join in too <3

E3 2017 Thoughts – Day 4 (Nintendo)

6 / 13 / 176 / 19 / 19

Nintendo

We’re at the final press conference of the week–Nintendo’s! As always, I’m pretty excited, even if it’s relatively short. While I do like Treehouse Live, I hope at least all the announcements are shown in the show and Treehouse Live is reserved for more gameplay elements.

So after a live trailer and some stuff with Xenoblade, a new Kirby game was shown and it looks pretty cool. It actually reminds me a lot of Kirby 64 and I like that you seem to be able to hire like… enemies as allies and stuff.

I’m very excited about a core Pokemon RPG coming to the Switch even if it’s over a year out as well, but I wish they showed something–even just some concept art similar to when they first announced Sun and Moon. Still great to know it’s coming though! I really have high hopes for it for a lot of reasons.

The upcoming Yoshi game also looks cute and it’s nice to see the Woolly World vibe going into other kinds of materials and things.

Breath of the Wild stuff also looks exciting. I’m so excited for the second DLC pack too–it sounds great. ALSO AMIIBO OF ALL THE HEROES:

I need them all.

As for Rocket League, I do already have it on PC and I’m excited that there will be Cross-play, but if I get it will depend on what the special exclusives will be.

Finally, Super Mario Odyssey looks AMAZING. Every single bit of the trailer was perfect, the music, the graphics, the worlds… I’m SO excited for that game and I can’t believe it’ll be out this October.

Seriously though, if you haven’t watched the trailer you need to:

I want a Modern Sonic Adventure in this kind of place.

Even though Nintendo’s showcase was short and thus, I didn’t really have too much to say, this was amazing to me. Just done so well. I do wish we could’ve heard about more games (I know there was mention of 3DS stuff, but we didn’t see anything so I’m guessing that’ll be during the Treehouse.) But wow, I’m just… so happy regardless. Time to watch lots of Treehouse Live now :) If there’s anything in Treehouse Live that I feel the need to talk about, I’ll probably add it to this! Otherwise, my twitter is always good to check too.

Edit: The Bridal Amiibo are so good and I need them all and I’m so excited for the set.

Meanwhile, Nintendo’s booths continue to impress me and I just love the theme song for this game.

E3 2017 Thoughts – Day 3 (PC Gaming Show, Ubisoft, and Sony)

6 / 12 / 176 / 12 / 17

PC Gaming Show

So, as I mentioned yesterday, I would be talking more about Ooblets today!

I was so excited to see a new trailer that not only showed a bit more of the customization aspects (with a clothing store and getting your hair done), but also more areas and even two new Ooblets, Glanter and Snurfler. I just genuinely can’t wait for the game? It looks so cute and charming and it’s really going to be a game I can see myself doing both updates here and videos like with Animal Crossing.

I can’t wait until it comes out next year. Dooziedug and Petula are probably my two favorite Ooblets right now, but they’re all incredibly cute.

I will say though that I’m not sure what exactly is with the PC Gaming Show, but it always comes off a bit boring. When it shows Game Trailers, great, but things like random commercials and long spiels are just often kind of awkward. Despite that though, I was happy to finally see another game capture my attention–Tunic.

The trailer mostly walked through some combat and a few level designs, but it’s really pretty and I love the isometric style of it. Unfortunately, they didn’t really say much about the game–I’m not sure if maybe they would have if sound didn’t cut out, but oh well. The game is actually about two years old now having originally been called the Secret Legend. It’s nice to see it back and looking forward to playing it in 2018 :)

Oddly enough, even though I know Sea of Thieves will be on PC and it’s how I plan to play the game, I wasn’t expecting to see it on the PC Gaming Show and was excited to see it pop up. The Mixer stream was… glitchy, sadly, so I was excited to see more of it today. I signed up for the Insiders Programme so fingers crossed <3 Ylands was up next and definitely looks pretty interesting to me. There was a lot I really liked about it and since you can make your own kinds of things and visit others' creations, I feel like it'd give me a lot to do similar to how much I played LittleBigPlanet.
My only worry is about the Survival part. I don’t care much for Survival games and just don’t really enjoy them. I prefer things a bit more easygoing. Regardless, if it can be turned off (which, the site barely mentions the feature at all so maybe??), I feel like I’d enjoy the game a lot. I hope you can customize the player character too, though.

The PC gaming conference was definitely longer than I expected it to be, but I’m glad I found a few things that interested me during it.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s up next and I’ll be honest–I’m happy they didn’t go to a celebrity host this year. I haven’t enjoyed the hosting of their press conference these last few years now and the jokes were just… never funny. That said, it is Ubisoft so even without a celebrity host, I’m still expecting things to be kind of crazy.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was first up and even though it was essentially leaked already, I still have no clue how to feel about it. The Rabbid in Peach’s outfit is cute. Also Miyamoto bringing out the lifesized weapon was kind of cool too:

I’m still going to wait to see actual gameplay of it to decide, but I don’t really think it’s a game I am going to want to play just from the promotional material and information alone. At the very least, the world DOES look quite nice:

But I’m not too into the combat itself so I feel like it may be a game I’d rather watch than play myself. I mean, it does look fun and silly, but I just don’t think I’d enjoy that kind of combat system. I do like the cute little bunny-robot thing that moves them when in combat, though.

Similarly, Skull & Bones got my attention from the graphics, but considering the main gameplay sounds like hardcore PVP which is like… one of my least favorite kinds of gameplay, I’ll most likely end up passing on it.

It was then time for the annual Ubisoft concert to go with Just Dance and it was probably one of the most eclectic group this time. I liked the Panda though.

The Panda was cool.

So, the first game I wasn’t expecting that I got interested in was Starlink: Battle for Atlas which features ships that you essentially can own and customize in real life and play with in the game and yes, please. My husband will probably talk more about it, but we’re likely getting it for the Nintendo Switch–especially due to the neat Joy-con Add-on. In the meantime, I really like this ship:

Fingers crossed for a light pink one.

Also fingers crossed for more Imagine games, but considering it’s been four years since the last ones, my hopes and dreams are already crushed there. More Imagine Detective games would have been nice (SPEAKING OF DETECTIVE GAMES, I STILL WANT DETECTIVE PIKACHU. I will continue this discussion tomorrow with Nintendo). Going back to things that were actually being shown during Ubisoft’s press conference, Beyond Good & Evil 2 looks quite interesting. I never played the first game, but I still find myself intrigued by it.

Surprisingly, I feel like Ubisoft actually did pretty well? Between the hype from Miyamoto showing up, mostly focusing on the games and when they were talking about them, actually keeping it interesting… Like sure, there was the one weird concert part for the latest Just Dance title, but besides being expected, it was actually shorter than usual? And still kind of worked? I definitely didn’t like everything (I still don’t see the appeal in South Park at all for example) and heck, I may not even get any of the games shown (Maybe one??), but it was still really enjoyable and I feel like it’s been a long time since I felt that way from a conference.

Sony

So, I didn’t expect much from the pre-show, but this locket for the special Undertale physical edition is beautiful and also a music box and I need it:

Moving on, I just really hope Sony fixes their issues because there have been so many audio issues and we haven’t had any stream buffer this much. It’s a little better on Twitch’s stream for it, but even their audio is kind of messed up. But well, at least we have sound now.

I don’t have much to say about Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, but it seems less like a Versus and more like an Alliance. Still looks kind of interesting though. They then got into their VR section which is frustrating because I’m just… not a fan of VR and Moss looks so cute and interesting, but I just would not play that as a VR game and I wish it could be a normal PS4 game.

Like I would probably buy this at launch/preorder it if it was a normal PS4 game? But nope, VR only :/

Detroit Become Human still looks quite interesting and this was a completely different trailer compared to the first we’ve seen. Still no release date though… I’m not sure if I’d personally play it, but I think it’s a game I’d really enjoy watching.

We then got to see more of the upcoming Spiderman game which just… genuinely does look really good. Another game that I’d be watching over playing myself though. The conference was definitely a bit shorter than I expected, honestly. I guess because they showed a decent amount during the pre-show, but still. All the technical issues were terrible, though. I still want to know who this character is though…
Edit: She has been found–apparently from Valkyria Revolution which came out in Japan a while back. It does look interesting! Also I want her dress in real life.

I think Ubisoft, surprisingly, was my favorite for today. Tomorrow is Nintendo’s and the start of Nintendo Treehouse Live so I’m looking forward ot it!

E3 2017 Thoughts – Day 2 (Microsoft & Bethesda)

6 / 12 / 17

Microsoft

So, Microsoft started with their “new” console today, or well, upgraded one as Xbox One X. Which is just… genuinely not a great name? I think if anything, especially after the Wii U, people would realize maybe more unique names would be good. The big deal? It’s faster and has 4K resolution.

Except… for me, neither of those are big deals. Ignoring that I don’t even have a 4K TV screen, I’m one of those people who really just stop noticing the differences at this point and so, a bigger resolution is meaningless for me. I also can’t care too much about it being faster as I just… don’t mind waiting much. As it is, we’ve only gotten two games on Xbox One–Sunset Overdrive and Rise of the Tomb Raider, which if it wasn’t for the fact that it came out several months for Xbox One first, we probably would’ve gotten it on PS4 like the first one. We beat the games once and that was it though, so…

I’d also like to point out that the fact that this is now their smallest system has ruined the point of the Xbox S so umm….. Moving past the system, Forza is pretty weird for me as it’s a game I keep meaning to get and everytime something comes up.

That said, I think part of it is that they focus on the graphics and areas and not so much the actual mechanics and things you can actually do in the game, besides, well, race. Also all Racing games need Beetles. Or at least a lovely Horse Carriage.

After many games I didn’t care about (STOP THE ZOMBIES AND POST APOCALYPTIC ADVENTURES. IT’S OVERDONE AND SO ANNOYING) a brief comment on Minecraft that I really can’t expand on, and a few other random tweets that also don’t really get expanded on…

…We got more information on Sea of Thieves which I genuinely do think looks really nice? Plus I love riddles.

It kind of reminds me of Endless Ocean and I want to explore and collect stuff with friends and sail around and it just looks really fun. I just hope people can play together using the same console.

Regardless, this is the first game of the night where it’s one I’d likely get at launch, though, more likely for the PC than the Xbox One. Sad to see it was pushed back to 2018 though, but still looking forward to it and hope we get a more concrete date for it soon.

Next up was a new game which I was very surprised to see. It actually looks really cut and reminds me of the 3D Mario Platformers and Sonic Adventure and I actually really want to play it?

LOOK AT THOSE CUTE GHOSTS AND CARVNIVAL GAMES. So, Super Lucky’s Tale is on my list. And this one I will likely actually play on my Xbox One and also another “must get at launch” title for me.

We then had an Indie trailer and I really wish they spent more time on them? There’s more I’m definitely curious about, but I will take this moment to talk about Ooblets which I am very excited for and plan to get for PC and already have it wishlisted on steam. The game is inspired by some of my own favorite titles–Harvest Moon, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing. You get to plant, grow, and collect Ooblets along with having a customizeable house and character.

There are no words for how excited I am for it–it’s not coming out until 2018, but that in no way dims the excitement. It’s supposed to be shown during the PC Gaming Show tomorrow as well with a surprise so I’ll be sure to talk about it more then :)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks very pretty. I never played Ori and the Blind Forest, though, it was on my list… but I heard it was quite sad and well, this game definitely looks like it’ll go that direction too. I really appreciated the live piano playing though. I love pianos.

And that pretty much sums up my Microsoft thoughts! I actually had a lot more to say than I expected and even have multiple games I’m excited for so I’m pretty satisfied, honestly. Bethesda is up later tonight and while I’m not expecting too much, it should still be fun! For now, I’m totally watching the Sea of Thieves co-stream though :P

Bethesda

I’m going to say right now that it’s very likely I will have nothing to say, if anything. I really haven’t played Bethesda games–in fact, the only one I’ve played was a tiny bit of Elder Scrolls Online with my husband. But who knows, maybe there could be a surprise tonight and I do like the Amusement Park theme.

While there were parts of Elder Scrolls Online we had fun, I think the general thing was it just felt kind of a soul-less game with most of the story lacking. While the new area does look nice, I just don’t think it’s enough to get me back into it when I’ve already missed enough (But at least the Bear ended up surviving). In the meantime, please look at this adorable Mudcrab I screencapped from the Creation Club part because it’s the only thing I’ve liked so far:

Amiibo support in Skyrim for Switch is definitely interesting though. While I’m still not too interested in Skyrim, I’m curious if other Amiibo could end up being able to be used for the Switch as well.

I’m guessing we’ll hear more during Nintendo’s on Tuesday if so.

The finisher for Bethesda was… very weird. From the shorts at the beginning, I kind of liked Liesel though? Peggy’s outfit was cute and Liesel was pretty cool, though, clearly needed more training.

And yep, I was more interested in that random weird short on the TV than the game itself so as expected, this was pretty short. But it was longer than I expected it to get so that’s something! I’d have brought up the cute little animated Chameleon that was completely out of place, but the commentary at the end ruined that for me SO….

But yes, tomorrow is the PC Gaming Show, Ubisoft, and Sony :) Looking forward to it!

E3 2017 Thoughts – Day 1 (EA)

6 / 10 / 176 / 12 / 17

Okay, so I’m essentially doing this based on the conferences. So, Day 1 is EA, Day 2 will be Microsoft and Bethesda, Day 3 will be PC Gaming Show, Ubisoft, and Sony, with Day 4’s being Nintendo’s. Any additional thoughts (such as things from random streams, announcements off presentations, or in the case of Nintendo, something during Treehouse Live), will likely be edited into the appropriate entry.

You can also find some quick thoughts over on my twitter. If you’re new here and/or to my Twitter, the important thing to note is I will only talk about things I have thoughts on so this isn’t a full summary of everything that was shown.

EA

When it comes down to it, I wasn’t really expecting to have much to say about EA’s stuff, and well, that expectation holds pretty true here.

In fact, I didn’t even care for anything until about 20-30 minutes here and it was just that a classic beetle will be in the upcoming Need for Speed game, Need for Speed: Payback.

Unfortunately, this Need for Speed isn’t really catching my attention. I used to really love the Need for Speed games and generally like games with a huge story focus, but for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked for me with the Need for Speed series. Payback especially makes me feel like it’s more of a Fast and the Furious game than a Need for Speed game and it just doesn’t work for me. I think I just enjoyed Need for Speed more when it was a bit more casual and just a fun racing title. The games used to be must haves for me, but now they’ve become “maybe I’ll get it eventually” and that makes me sad. It does look interesting, but it’s just not really what I look to the series for. As mentioned, maybe I’ll still get it eventually, but we’ll see…

Next up was A Way Out which I actually think looks pretty interesting. It’s essentially a Co-op prisonbreak game with tons of different ways to handle situations between two friends.

That said, while I think it looks really interesting, I don’t really know if I’d personally enjoy playing it myself. I will likely keep an eye out on it though.

I’ve never cared too much for the Battlefront games so even the Star Wars ones have never really caught my attention. Thinking about it, the only Star Wars game I really enjoyed was SWTOR before it kind of went downhill when it introduced its Cash Shop program. I did think Star Wars 1313 was interesting though, before it was cancelled anyway. That said, I’m sure my husband will be getting Star Wars Battlefront II if it really has improved so I’ll get to try it :P

And that’s it for Day 1! :) Tomorrow will feature any thoughts I have on Microsoft’s and Bethesda’s Press Conferences <3

Just some Pokemon Direct thoughts

6 / 6 / 17

I originally was just going to keep it to my small thoughts on Twitter, but I got a few questions about it so I wanted to write something in… more detail and after thinking about it, I guess I have a bit more to say.

I’ll start with Pokken Tournament DX just because I won’t have much to say about it. So it’s Pokken. With the added Arcade characters. And a few more things. And on the Switch. And well, I just don’t really care. I tried really hard to get into Pokken, but in the end just got… bored. Unless some of my favorite Pokemon end up on the roster (or heck, an Audino who’d Mega Evolve), I don’t think it’d ever really reel me in enough to care. I’m not surprised to see a bigger version brought to the Switch, but when it comes down to it, I think I’d rather see a new Pokemon Stadium title which had a side mode being what Pokken Tournament is along with other minigames. I think, in general, fighting games just aren’t as interesting to me anymore.

While I wasn’t pleased with the announcement, especially considering the slow build up on how the Nintendo Switch exists and having a game and it just being Pokken (even though I didn’t expect a main title on Switch yet, I just… constantly forget Pokken exists and it’s like the one thing I would’ve have wanted to see–I don’t even care for the Pokemon Ranger series and I would have taken that) was disappointing and that moment of suspense, despite how small it was, ended up being a big let-down for me. I did really like the trailer they played though and that was probably the highlight of the Pokken part of the Direct for me.

But I did feel it was a bit long. As someone who also really loved all the Pokemon Sun and Moon Shorts leading up to the game, I really wished they had just put the longer up after and had a shorter one to discuss other things. Whether it be more about Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, stuff about updates for mobile games, about WHERE THE HECK IS DEETCTIVE PIKACHU BECAUSE I WANT THAT GAME SO BADLY AND IT ENDED ON A CLIFFHANGER… ahem, or even other side games.

More than half of the 8 minutes was dedicated to just Pokken stuff though and that was really disappointing. There wasn’t really enough content for that to be it. I just hope maybe we’ll see more stuff on Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon at E3 as well. Unfortunately, they only confirmed hearing about Pokken for that too thus far :/

Before I get into my thoughts on Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, I want to briefly address the Switch rumor that accidentally broke out. I’ll admit, I generally don’t look at the Press Releases right away (I like to focus on everything shown first before really going through that) so just from the trailer alone, I didn’t even know there was any confusion. Ignoring people who had made the rumors for ages now, part of the incident was due to an accidental mention on the Press Release which got fixed about 90 minutes later:

We would like to address rumours based on a clerical error on the Pokémon press site; Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are coming exclusively to Nintendo 3DS family of systems and are not due for release on Nintendo Switch. This listing on the Pokémon press site was made in error and is not indicative of future plans. Please refer to the Pokémon Direct for the full details of the game.

While I do think, before the Direct hit anyway, there were plenty of reasons to believe a game could be on the Switch, there was nothing that hinted to that during the Direct itself. Pokken Tournament on the Switch and the clear 3DS cartridges for Pokken Tournament guy’s nephews was shown in a clear divide and even when the logos showed up at the end, it was with just 3DS mentioned under them. To me, there was no point where it wasn’t the 3DS and while I think a Switch version still could have been cool, I’m not surprised. And considering this is an “Alternative Story” to Pokemon Sun and Moon, it makes sense they’d use the system they already have assets and things built for.

I think what I question the most right now is what “Alternative Story” really means. Is it a sequel? Is it a completely different plot/timeline (Sort of what they did with ORAS versus the original Gen 3 games)? They really didn’t expand on it. At most, we’ve seen what looks like some new totem Pokemon, some new areas:

(This just makes me really want Pokemon stuff in Animal Crossing though)

And things like this where it looks like Solgaleo and Lunala get fused with Necrozma.

And I wasn’t too fond of that in B2/W2 with Kyurem so not fond to see it back.

But in general, it does look like new areas and content, but without more information first, I’m not going to get my hopes too high just yet.

I am hoping for a sequel though. Find out what happened with Lillie and her mom, see the island grow, etc.

At the very least, it’s clear there’s some changes. Besides the new clothing, the room has gotten a make-over with the Nintendo Switch, painted walls, an autograph instead of the Pikachu plush, and even new curtains.

Of course, who knows, it could be a new protagonist rather than just a continuation of our own Story. It could be a separate timeline thing. I just really want to know exactly what it is, at this point, before I get any hopes too hyped up.

I also hope maybe I’ll get to have a Ponytail this time because it was silly not to have one on a Tropical Island. It DOES look like at least one new hairstyle plus new clothes so fingers crossed on a customization update overall. And no colors locked by which game you have because that sucked. :/ Also just… really want something like the Dex Nav back as that made Pokemon collecting so much more fun.

But yes, fingers crossed we hear more about the games soon. If only to expand upon the “Alternative Story”.
