Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Day 3~

9 / 27 / 15

This will probably be the last day I get to play for a long time for a few days. My main goal was to at least get all the emotions which I did so yay! Now I just want to try and do every villager’s house at least once & unlock all the items. I sadly don’t think I’ll be able to do so before the first so I just hope I do a good job with the theme regardless.

So, I was almost going to do a different house for a ballet studio (to unlock my shoes!), but as soon as I saw Daisy’s theme, I had to. She wanted a house Santa would visit (“A magnet for Santa) and I love Christmas so…

Emotion learned: Boy’s Pose
Rating Address: 0605-7701-149

Molly – A publishing house

Emotion learned: Anger
Rating Address: 0409-7704-839

Gayle – A home with heart/surrounded by hearts

Emotion learned: Showmanship
Rating Address: 0804-7709-869

Mira – Futuristic Space. This is probably one of the houses I’ve felt most unsatisfied with in a long while. I expected a lot of the spaceship stuff and didn’t really get much of anything.

Emotion learned: Love
Rating Address: 0292-7702-179

Bam – A field-trip atmosphere. Another one where what I expected to get/had an idea of wasn’t it… I was hoping for a lot of camping stuff, but he seemed to more just want a field trip to a cabin…

Emotion learned: Explain
Rating Address: 0401-7702-199

Shari – A bed of nonwilting flowers. She was actually referring to stuff like the flower furniture (though, she didn’t give me much of it…) over gold roses, but I put them in anyway.

Emotion learned: Pride
Rating Address: 0509-7705-130

Bones – A second childhood

Emotion learned: Mischief
Rating Address: 0491-7701-110

Rocket – A Superhero Hideout. Like Mira, I expected something much different than a place for them to all relax…

Emotion learned: Agreement
Rating Address: 0201-7701-880

Kabuki – A shrine for Zen items

Emotion learned: Heartbreak
Rating Address: 0209-7704-120

Ribbot – Robohouse

Emotion learned: Cold Chill
Rating Address: 0292-7709-810

Papi – A wood-inspired abode.

Emotion learned: Shrunk Funk Shuffle
Rating Address: 0202-7709-870

Robin – A country teahouse. Despite the theme, Robin obviously wanted more of an Asian-inspired tea house than “country”.

Emotion learned: Lottie’s “All Set!” Pose
Rating Address: 0204-7702-870

Fauna – A home concert hall.

Emotion learned: Complete
Rating Address: 0791-7705-102

And with that, I finally earned every Emotion!:

Lottie’s is probably one of my favorites as I just love the end pose:

Cheri – A fruity room for juicing.

Rating Address: 0591-7701-132

Stitches – Colorful Toy Box

Rating Address: 0292-7704-822

Biskit – An “eggstravaganza”.

Rating Address: 0594-7709-852

Bunnie – A perpetual Birthday party.

Rating Address: 0405-7709-102

Frobert – A shrine to all things Gracie.

Rating Address: 0191-7702-142

Kidd – A photography studio.

Rating Address: 0795-7705-817

Jeremiah – A blue room, top to bottom.

Rating Address: 0201-7705-187

Boone – A Desert Paradise

Rating Address: 0894-7704-167

Finally, thank you to everyone who has been rating my rooms! Look at my cute little rating card:

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Day 2!

9 / 27 / 15

It’s weird having the “plot” essentially all done and just wandering around doing houses. It really makes me wonder if anything happens once you’ve done a house for everyone. I’ve definitely forgotten a few things while doing houses or gotten things later I’d want to implement so I expect to do that a lot once I’ve made everyone’s house (just to make sure I have everything). But yes, onto today’s customers!

I started playing a bit later today as I wanted to get QRs done first. I realized I somehow missed some though so I had to check back to my ACNL game… unfortunately, I started a day to do some QR codes already and didn’t want to just save without doing someone’s house/waste the day so I went out and Chrissy was there! She wanted a delightfully dotted room/lots of polkadots. I made sure to at least record locally.

Emotion learned: Inspiration
Rating address: 0908-7704-173

Phil was the first villager I ended up picking once I started streaming. He wanted a personal micro cosmos.

Emotion learned: Disagreement
Rating address: 0100-7704-839

Next was Pango who wanted a Posh, private day spa. I was hoping to earn more baths from Pango’s request, but I sadly did not.

Emotion learned: Shock
Rating address: 0403-7709-869

Paula was the next I picked just because it sounded cute. She wanted a Karaoke Parlor.

Emotion learned: Apologize
Rating address: 0107-7702-859

Alice wanted a mix of antique pieces. I was hoping to get a lot more than I did with her room, but I still tried my best.

Emotion learned: Resignation
Rating address: 0298-7701-860

I then decided to browse the Happy Home Network briefly to check out some of the high rated homes/places. I only visited two, but they were both quite nice.

I hope someone likes my places that much too one day. Once I’ve unlocked more things, I’d love to take another look at some rooms for when I’m struggling a bit with ideas just to get some inspiration.

Beardo was one I had been looking forward to from some of the early game footage shown. While his theme doesn’t seem as much about tea now, I still put a lot of that into my home for him despite him only asking for a “Landscaped Garden”.

Emotion Learned: Happiness
Rating address: 0707-7704-850

Friga was picked due to her wanting a “Classy, royal, room”. I was really hoping it’d unlock more stuff to my tastes. It sadly did not.

Emotion Learned: Sunniness
Rating address: 0298-7702-170

I was incredibly excited when I saw Amelia though. She wanted an Elegant, Lofty space and from what I had been told, she unlocked fountains. I’M STILL SO HAPPY ABOUT FOUNTAINS.

Emotion Learned: Sheepishness
Rating address: 0293-7705-192

Next was Roscoe who I knew still had several things I needed. Even though he is one of the ones that shows up in the early crowd more often than not, I kept seeing a lot of themes I’d pick over him. It was nice to finally get him all settled in his “Black & White Bastion” though.

Emotion Learned: Sorrow
Rating address: 0508-7701-182

Margie was next and she wanted a Place full of clothes. This was a fun design to play around with custom patterns more.

Emotion Learned: Disbelief
Rating address: 0498-7709-182

Nothing stood out for me in the next group and I knew I wanted to add a fountain to the Hotel, so I decided to go and re-do it to add more of the water-accents in.

Updated Rating Address: 0393-7702-112

Unfortunately, it was another group that really didn’t stand out so I let the stream chat pick. Tabby ended up winning the vote with her Old, abandoned, hospital theme… which was honestly probably my least favorite of the bunch. At least it’s out of the way now.

Emotion Learned: Daydreaming
Rating address: 0697-7701-127

Tammy then showed up and with October only a few days away, I decided to go ahead and do her theme of a Halloween-themed place/Halloween Party.

Emotion Learned: Fearful
Rating address: 0803-7704-807

I left the next selection up to chat vote again. Zell ended up winning with his “Themed Hotel” theme. I’m still not 100% sure if I covered it properly, but I still had fun with his room.

Emotion Learned: Outrage
Rating address: 0397-7702-807

I decided to do Bubbles’ Home next as Bubbles’ “Indoor Beach” theme had popped up a few times and I was hoping for more beach/water items anyway.

Emotion Learned: Amazed
Rating address: 0903-7705-875

Then, to end the night I did Bluebear’s theme–A Supersweet Bakery! Even though I had most of the sweet-relate stuff unlocked, I did get a bunch of cool things from her home. Plus it was just a cute theme to finish off with.

Emotion Learned: Girl’s Pose
Rating address: 0096-7704-115

Finally, my father surprised me with two more boxes of the Amiibo Cards! I sadly didn’t have much luck after the first few packs, but I only have one card left now (Clyde). We may have gotten him from someone, but I’m not going to update anything until the card is successfully here. I also have a new page for all of my extra Amiibo cards now.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer – Day 1 continued!

9 / 26 / 15

So, as previously mentioned, I was looking forward to playing again after sleeping and thus, it was time. I played for about 12 hours and once again, you can watch the recordings on my Youtube channel or check out below for lots of photos and summaries :D

Upon loading the game back up, Toom Nook was there and complimented me on my skills!

With my promotion, I received access to the Happy Home Handbook which let me learn various lessons

I was allowed to learn the first one for free–Ceiling items!

By the end of this entry, I learned the rest of the lessons as well and I will say that I wish there was an additional lesson on Layouts like there is for Designs. Layouts with more than two rooms for Villagers are generally quite small and the only way to get the options with the expanded versions are to go back and forth which wouldn’t be as frustrating if it wasn’t for the fact that each time uses up a day in which you do absolutely nothing. It’s just a tiring/frustrating cycle and while I find myself mostly using just one room (Afterall, Villagers usually have only one room), I can think of a few examples where I’d really love two rooms or even bigger single rooms and knowing I have to go through that annoying back and forth is pretty frustrating.

With my new lessons in hand and Isabelle not having any new assignments, I was back off into the world of the plaza to find someone to make a room for next. After some wandering around, I ended up picking Pecan who wanted a relaxing room with Chic furniture.

I also received the emotion Delight.

Isabelle then showed back up with new facility options for me to do. I decided to pick the Cafe first as all the food items are adorable in this game.

After finishing, Lottie told me about the Happy Home Network!

It essentially lets me upload designs of mine online for people to rate. The Cafe’s rating address is 0000-7731-174.

Next up, I did a shop for Isabelle!

It’s essentially toys and cute things.
Rating address/search number: 0798-7734-144

And to finish off Isabelle’s current requests… the hospital.

This is probably one of my least favorite buildings just because of how sick the animals in it get. I don’t see myself going there much.
Rating address/search number: 0490-7734-864

With all of Isabelle’s jobs once again completed, it was off to help out more villagers who needed homes. I picked Deirdre next who wanted a place that was essentially Year-around Autumn/an Autumnal atmosphere.

Emotion received: Distress
Rating address/search number: 0296-7734-814

Next up was Greta who wanted a Hot Springs Spa. While I had a lot of fun with it, it made me realize I really want to get more baths.

Emotion received: Mistaken
Rating address/search number: 0308-7734-884

Isabelle was then back with even more facilities. I decided to pick the restaurant first as it was one of the buildings I had been excited to do since the early trailers of the game.

Rating address/search number: 0607-7734-104

I didn’t have a preference out of Isabelle’s other choices and one of the viewers watching asked me to do Office next, so I went with that. It’s an office where the boss is also a Detective. Whether the whole office is in on the Detective-ness and it is also a Detective Agency while pretending to be an office, I haven’t decided yet.

Rating address/search number: 0593-7739-154

Next I chose the Department Store as I figured it’d probably have a lot of neat items. I was right.

Essentially besides the display hall, there’s a clothing & jewelry/accessory area, and a fancy teddy bear area. Because fancy teddy bears are awesome. I need more teddy bears for it. And I forgot a changing room in the other area. Darn it. I plan to fix so many things once I have a lot more items unlocked. I’m mostly holding off so I don’t have to go back an forth too many times.
Rating address/search number: 0700-7739-144

I then had to make another shop and I ended up using the same exterior as the first shop. I just love how it looks way too much. This shop ended up being a flower/garden shop.

Rating address/search number: 0406-7739-154

Finally, Isabelle wanted us to upgrade the school. I kept the original appearance and first classroom I had the same. While I did like the new school exteriors, I preferred the coloring of the one I originally selected. I wish they used those colors for the new version. Anyway, I made the Hallway mostly achievement based while turning the other classroom into a Home Economics/Sewing/Creativity

Rating address/search number: 0997-7732-824

With that, it was once again to the plaza to pick a villager. I was so excited when I saw Muffy as I knew she unlocked the Rococo furniture so I quickly went to help her with her wanted home–an Ornately decorated room.

Emotion received: Aggravation
Rating address/search number: 0600-7732-854

Isabelle was back the next day with the project I was most looking forward to… the Concert Hall! It is the best for the villager interaction and hearing them sing K.K. Slider’s songs is absolutely amazing. I could sit in there all day and just listen to the music play. I just wish there were more than 4 performers.

And yes, that is K.K. Slider next to me and no, I didn’t scan his Amiibo card. I didn’t know special villagers could appear in the buildings randomly so it caught me by complete surprise.
Rating address/search number: 0199-7735-103
Isabelle also was ready with the final facility–the Hotel, but before I started I used my next day to just remove the stool from the Piano so they could actually play it… I’m honestly pretty frustrated that you can’t do more than one thing a day. That and just having a hard time with the way items are organized are really my only big issues with the game. Though, the layout thing is something I still have a lot of mixed feelings about (along with the item limit).

But yes, it was then onto the Hotel which actually features my favorite facility Exterior. It’s just absolutely beautiful. I had a lot of fun with the hotel and making the rooms mirrored.

I can’t wait until I have the fountain though–that is what that pond is kind of being a filler for. That area was too empty without it.
Rating address/search number: 0004-7734-803

And thus, I officially did all the facilities (and fully expanded the Plaza)!

Of course, Isabelle had to hold a ceremony for it :P

And then the credits rolled!

Unfortunately, this means I will no longer see Isabelle, but now the only assignments I still have to do are for Villagers I haven’t done yet, so now it will officially be those I picked to help in this town (though, I do hope to help everyone eventually!).

Sprinkle wanted a Frozen World to play in.

Emotion received: Greetings
Rating address/search number: 0504-7739-813

Cookie wanted a room fit for a Princess.

Emotion received: Consent
Rating address/search number: 0392-7732-873

Monty first said he wanted a Zodiac Room in his thought bubble… and then a Monkey Mansion. I’m still not entirely sure what he wanted, but I gave him a Monkey shrine and lots of bananas.

Emotion received: Flourish
Rating address/search number: 0594-7735-169

Merengue wanted a Candy House like in a Fairytale :D

Emotion received: Shyness
Rating address/search number: 0699-7731-829

I also finally got some new things and changed my outfit:

I still haven’t gotten a skirt I really wanted though or my Ballerina slippers yet however :(

Bob wanted a Floral Atmosphere/to be surrounded by flowers. While I’m not a big flower person, his exterior has been the one I’ve felt most satisfied with. I’ve had a lot of issues with making the exteriors look okay and just really wish I had more things for them.

Emotion received: Glee
Rating address/search number: 0302-7734-859

Sheldon wanted a non-stop gaming room. Unfortunately, when I read this I expected something like an AR-like thing/Super Mario room where the level was brought to live over an arcade in his house. I think it came out okay, but I probably would have used a different room layout if I realized…

Emotion received: Worry
Rating address/search number: 0595-7732-169

Maelle wanted a High-end fashion boutique. I ended up picking Maelle due to hoping she’d unlock more skirts. Unfortunately, I received barely anything new and I guess most of what she would have had was already unlocked through the facilities. I still had fun with her home though and I finally got to use the car as well.

Emotion received: Sneezing
Rating address/search number: 0402-7735-880

Elvis, unsurprisingly, wanted A Royal Palace! I was very surprised that he didn’t unlock more things (such as the Suit of Armor), but I tried to make do. I definitely want to add to his place though.

Emotion received: Thought
Rating address/search number: 0901-7731-190

Harry wanted a Messy room/A “slop-tastic” pad. I was mostly just looking to unlock more things. Despite him wanting it messy, I feel like I still made it too much of an organized mess.

Emotion received: Sleepy
Rating address/search number: 0505-7734-830

And the last customer of the night was Puddles who wanted an adorable pink room and obviously, I can not say no to requests for pinkness.

Emotion received: Sadness
Rating address/search number: 0101-7739-890

And that was it for today! Also, as an update on the card status, I managed to get 3 more of the cards I needed thanks to an awesome friend of mine :D So I have updated previous entry to reflect this along with changes in extras.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer – The first day!

9 / 25 / 159 / 26 / 15

So, Happy Home Designer officially came out today! Gamestop was doing a midnight launch for another game, but said they could do them for Animal Crossing as well, so I headed out with my mom and we bought the game (with the NFC reader for me), the New 3DS Bundle for her, and 2 boxes of Amiibo Cards! Before I unboxed the cards (as I honestly don’t plan to use them until I have most of the game complete), I wanted to go ahead and get started. You can find recordings of my playthrough of the game in this playlist!

But yes, as soon as I got home, I quickly loaded up the game and despite some issues with Twitch & XSplit, I did stream most of it. Now, let’s get onto game adventures…

So, despite Tom Nook completely forgetting who I was, I still received a very warm welcome at Nook’s Homes:

After introductions and Tom Nook taking his leave (to apparently go golfing. Wow.), Lottie gave me my uniform!:

It was then off to my very first job to get a hang of things. I had to decorate an interior to fit the theme of “a Room with a Lovely Atmosphere”:

I did my best! In the end, it turns out it was for Lottie:

Despite her being my first customer in that sense, I decided I’m not going to officially count her on the page until I go back and do her house properly through the Amiibo cards.

Once I had learned the ropes, we received our first actual customer–Goldie!

She wanted to be surrounded by books.

I think she liked it! And I even earned my first emotion–Joy.

The next day, Lottie gave me the Client list and asked me to go see Goldie again.

Goldie seemed to still be enjoying her house a lot and I even took a nice photo of us relaxing in front of the fireplace:

Next up, Lyle and Lottie were talking about a customer outside who Lyle ended up scaring off. They put me to the task and I ended up getting my second customer–Lopez! He wanted a Metropolitan Lifestyle. I had a lot of fun with his room, but I definitely want to change up the colors as soon as I unlock the ability to do so:

I also received my second emotion: Bashfulness.

I then finally got to start picking for myself who I’d like to do rooms for. For my first pick, I chose Tangy who, unsurprisingly, wanted a room with lots of fruit. I managed to fit every bowl in there and it’s super colorful:

And received my next emotion: Laughter

The next day, Tom Nook was there with Isabelle!

We’d have some bigger projects to do starting tomorrow.

In the meantime though, I decided to help Pekoe out with her request–an Exotic Resort:

And I received the emotion of Surprise!

It was then off to the next day and as promised, Isabelle was there to talk about building the town up–starting with a brand new school.

I had a lot of fun putting it together:

And unsurprisingly, I picked the pink one:

We even had a really nice ceremony for it:

Building a new school invited a new customer to Nook’s Homes…

…along with now letting us pick a location for the home and decorate the Exterior as well! I plan to go back to all of the previous villagers’ homes above to do this at some point and maybe even give them a bigger place as well. But yes, going back to that new customer… Carrie wanted a Garden for all her kids to play in.

And the exterior:

I also received the Curiousity emotion.

Lyle and Lottie then told me about the brand new Amiibo phone!

While I’m saving my cards for one of the later things I do in the game, I did at least scan my Villager Amiibo for this lovely furniture item:

I was then allowed to pick randomly from outside again and while not being a huge fan of the Kangaroos for the most part (Marcie is the only one I really like), Sylvia caught my attention with her theme of “a Place with a pool where kids can play”. I love fountains and waterfalls so anything that gets me more water-related items = must be done.

And I received the Sighing emotion.

With that, my first play session of Happy Home Designer was paused so I could take a break to unbox 2 boxes of the Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards :D And I really love how the title screen adds your character to it now:

But yes, as for the Amiibo cards, I actually did an Unboxing! You can find Part 1 and Part 2 of the unboxings on Youtube! But if you’d rather just read about it, here’s the summary. After 36 packs/216 Amiibo Cards (18 packs/108 cards per box), I managed to get all but 11–I am missing Digby (#9), Harriet (#11), Tiffany (#30), Patty (#38), Midge (#65), Clyde (#68), Cherry (#77), Truffles (#79), Annalisa (#83), Diana (#89), and Willow (#97). It’s definitely a pretty good go essentially, but I do wish I at least got all the special villagers and Diana as well. I won’t be opening more packs until series 2 so I just hope I can trade or buy them.

Edit: Any crossed out above are ones I’ve gotten since making this post!

As for doubles, you can find a list of all of them here!

LBX Complete!

9 / 21 / 15

So, if you recall one of my more recent posts or are subscribed to my Youtube channel, you probably know I’ve been playing LBX :P I finally beat it today (Most people have beaten it much faster than I have though) and I really enjoyed it so I just wanted to talk a little more about it! If you’re curious about the game, you can watch my entire playthrough on this handy-dandy playlist.

I would say the hardest battle I had was actually not at the end, but I think if I had another battle that hard I’d have cried. The story is great and is a lot deeper than you’d probably expect. I did not see the final villain coming at all either.

But yes, please look into the game! It really is quite good. One of the cool things from the credits is you actually get to see all the LBX you used in the final area:

There is also this lovely end scene:

But best of all I was finally able to unlock Princess M and all is right in the world:

She’s the best LBX <3

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer – What I’m looking forward to most

9 / 13 / 159 / 13 / 15

With the game less than 2 weeks away now, I’ve had a few people asking me how I can be so excited and while I’ve made a couple of articles talking about features that excited me, I really wanted to talk more about what makes Happy Home Designer special specially to me and why I feel it could be my favorite Animal Crossing game ever.

Now, if this isn’t your first time here, you probably know I adore Animal Crossing. I even a full blog for it. The game has been very special to me for many reasons, from fun experiences with family and friends to just such a fun customization experience with adorable characters and seeing the games continue to improve. While I wasn’t always happy with every installment (City Folk having the same item limit as Wild World with a smaller house will always baffle me and we’ve spoken enough about how New Leaf’s moving mechanic was beyond broken), I still had fun with them. The thing about Happy Home Designer though is most of my favorite features of the game are still in it without the “stress” component.

I don’t play too many real time games. In fact, off the top of my head I can only think of two–Animal Crossing and the first Style Savvy (and the third will be included in this if it ever comes over). Disney Magical World is also included in this to an extent, but with how long events lasted and how few things really were time dependent, I find it closer to what Style Savvy 2 had with months changing. I like putting a lot of time into my games, but I’ve never been fond of time traveling and despite what some people think, checking in every day actually isn’t that easy sometimes.

Customization is generally my favorite part of any game. I love decorating and designing and making things and it’s something that I just am not able to do much in real life so whenever I get so much creative freedom and can actually do something with things that I really enjoy makes me incredibly happy. It’s that exact reason why when stats are paired with customization (Such as in Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon), I get so upset because I can’t continue to play and have a good time because it’s just continued failure unless I don’t choose the customizations I really enjoy.

Happy Home Designer focuses so incredibly much on the idea of customization and while I do miss some staple Animal Crossing features (such as the museum–I really did enjoy collecting all the fish and bugs) and all the other NPCs (thank you, Amiibo cards), the fact that it focuses exactly on my favorite part of the game is just incredibly exciting. I do wish there were a few more exterior appearances for buildings (afterall, three buildings share the same selection and there is really only one I like best for each–it’d have been neat if they just had the styles and you could pick the colors separately) and am still worried about the item limitations, but it’s hard not to just think of how much you can do.

And even if customization isn’t so much your thing, seeing the Animals interact with everything so much more is great. It’ll also be nice having all my favorite villagers and being able to visit them in their house whenever I’d like without worrying that they will go away forever.

I really hope so many of the features in Happy Home Designer do find a way into New Leaf. Maybe we’ll even be able to alter our island/town itself–decide where the ponds and waterfalls are, make cliffs, have a full customized town. But if anything, Happy Home Designer shows me just how much customization the series can have and while I already loved the Animal Crossing series, Happy Home Designer has managed to make that love go to new heights.

I can’t wait until I can start playing and open up Amiibo Cards. I hope to see many of you all playing too!

Pokemon GO! for Android and iPhone

9 / 10 / 159 / 13 / 15

pokemon_go_logo_rgb_900px_150ppi

So, if you watched the presentation on Niconico today, you’ll know that they announced an upcoming Pokemon game (dedicated to Mr. Iwata T~T <3) that has been in progress for over 2 years called Pokemon GO. It is a mobile game (and thankfully, it looks like it will be out for both Android and iPhone at the same time) and seems like it'll use AR and essentially let you catch Pokemon in the real world.

The trailer reminded me a lot of the advertisement for when Google did their April Fools thing with catching Pokemon, except the fact that AR Pokemon really will be a part of this game. I wonder if that event really a test if anything. It does seem everyone who participates in getting a legendary gets it (and they are timed for how long they show up) as well which is nice.

I do wonder how trading heavy it may be though–like if Pokemon will actually be region based. Will you be able to get items like Mega Stones? Will AR properly work? I find myself with a lot of questions, but considering it’s not out until 2016, I’m sure there will be plenty of time to see more and have more answered.

While I’d still prefer anything but a mobile game (still hoping for a Pokemon Snap with all Pokemon or a Pokemon MMO one day), I do think this looks really cool and I had a lot of fun with the Google Maps thing so I am excited regardless. They said that it would be a lot like “Ingress” which was a Augmented Reality MMO, but made for Pokemon. Like a real life Pokemon journey. You’ll use your phone to see the Pokemon, of course.

I just hope I can catch all the Pokemon without necessarily trading. I feel like they will be making things very region-based and I’m hoping that won’t actually be the case as traveling isn’t that cheap. Regardless, I can’t wait to see the game out and I’m looking forward to it so much.

It really seems like they are putting a lot of effort into it. One of the things they showed at one point during the trailer was a upside down teardrop-shaped Pokeball which is apparently called the “Pokemon GO Plus”–it is a way to alert/notify you when something is happening in the game. You can use it to throw Pokeballs as well by hitting the button in the center.

It is an optional addition, but I actually think it’s really cool and definitely want to get it. You can even wear it as a clip-on or wristband accessory.

This could be an actual reality in a way:
viistar
(Above figure commissioned by me from Viistar)
I could be dressed like a Pokemon trainer (ignoring that I can’t sew. ONE DAY) and have a Mega Audino and be a real Pokemon Master :P

I wonder if you can earn actual badges too? That’d be so cool. I’d love to see them continue adding things to it. Maybe a PC Pokemon Ranch where you can see all the Pokemon from your phone interacting and doing things. I feel there’s so much they could really add to it and just thinking of all these possibilities just makes me even more excited. I mean, just think of actually catching shinies in real life. Going out with a group of friends and also looking for Pokemon. And more and more scenarios! I can tell this will easily be one of my top games of 2016 already. I just hope I can get all 721 Pokemon (and future new Pokemon) regardless :D (please no box limits).

That said, I am surprised the game will be going to the freemium route. If it really does, I hope it’s more like Pokemon Rumble World versus Pokemon Shuffle. I’d definitely prefer just buying the game though.

Also going to be crossing my fingers for custom trainers considering these were shown in the trailer:
customtrainersprites2
customtrainersprites
I know the game itself won’t be like that (afterall, you see the Pokemon threw your phone), but the idea that you can have cute custom trainer icons (or maybe even a full 3D model in the actual game, who knows) has me pretty excited too.

Finally, the small New 3DS!

New3DS_ACHHD_Final_Render

Well, despite people being pretty negative about this game (though, I am still super excited for it), it looks like it’ll be what finally gets the normal/small sized New 3DS over to North America! Europe and Japan have had it for quite a while so it’s nice to see it here too.

I don’t have any plans to get one, though. I don’t care for any coverplates too much right now (the closest being the Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer ones, but not enough to make me want to get one. Plus I’d have to get a new Capture Card then and I don’t have the money for that right now :P

My fiance does, however, want the black one. But right now, it mostly seems confirmed to be in the bundle only. I’m sure we’ll see it separately eventually (Or at least I hope so), but until then, I’m guessing only the white will be available. Hopefully it does come separately too.

(There will also be a special New 3DS XL for Triforce Heroes in the usual gold with a Hylian Crest.)

I’m glad to see it coming over though. There was no reason to put it off for so long :(

LBX, Happy Home Designer, Style Savvy 3, and other recent news!

8 / 24 / 158 / 24 / 15

I haven’t written much in a while which is generally due to not having too much to say. Most of it is just sporadic excitement which is probably easier to follow on my twitter. That said, I’ve gotten a few questions on things and also wanted to talk about some of stuff I am excited for some more.

So, to kick it off–I’ll bring out the recently released game for the 3DS: LBX (Little Battlers Xperience). The game had caught my interest pretty early on–I had no idea what it was having never heard of the series in any form, but it looked neat. At E3, I got to see it even more and it actually looked pretty fun. I’ve been really wanting some new games to play (Why must you not release things during most of Summer, Nintendo? :( ) and while everywhere else was enjoying Woolly World we still have to wait for October so… Regardless, I figured I’d give it a try and honestly, I’ve been enjoying it.

I’m still having a bit of trouble with the combat, but the game itself is still a lot of fun. When not in a battle, the game actually reminds me a lot of Megaman Starforce–just with 3D models. Running around town, the random battles, the quest system… I really enjoyed the Starforce series and it was one of the first Megaman games I played so I had fun seeing the type of style again. The battles aren’t similar at all (though, that may be for the best) feeling much more free form.

The game features nearly full voice acting–pretty much all the cutscenes and several bits of the dialogue are voiced similar to the Professor Layton series–though, considering the game is by Level-5 that isn’t really surprising. :P I was shocked by just how much introduction there was right at the beginning:

The game follows the first season of the show and features the Japanese animation (as apparently the dubbed version actually did many cuts/edits). That said, the voices are the English cast–but I find them pretty good usually. I would say the only “annoying” parts are during battles where many of the people you fight have one of a few random ones even if it’s supposedly new people and some of those voices can be abit… ear-piercing.

My only real issue with the game though is I wish you could actually color parts. There’s so many parts and color schemes (and even some color variants for a few robots), but even with all the colors, very few match and it can make your robot look… really odd. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I wish I had the option to both do something unique and make it look a bit more Uniform versus it being a mismatched bag of colors.

But yes, I’ve uploaded a few videos so far and plan to continue to do so. If it looks interesting, definitely give it a shot! Even though it’s a port from the PSP, it actually had a lot of new stuff too so I think even if you enjoyed that version, you could have fun with this one as well. I also want to thank the nice people who commented with information about the series :) It’s really made me want to check it out when I have time.

While I am enjoying LBX, I’d be lying if I didn’t say there are some games I’m looking forward to even more coming up in only about a month now! It’s hard to believe Happy Home Designer is only a month away. I’ve been watching a lot of Japanese footage to keep up to date on things, but unlike how I usually play Animal Crossing games, I don’t really have much planned out. I have an idea on what buildings I want for Main Street and what kind of outfit I want to have in the long run:
hhdprepared

I’ve also been slowly working on turning patterns back into QR codes and even making some new ones:
hhdprepared2 hhdprepared3
What do you mean Mega Audino isn’t relevant? Mega Audino is always relevant.

I can’t even decide what I’m most excited about it. I’ve already spoken about it a few times so I won’t go on another ramble, but I can’t wait and there aren’t enough words for how much I’m looking forward to playing it. Also still hoping to be able to get at least one box of cards! It’ll be 6 cards per pack and each pack costs about $6 so it’s like $1 a card which isn’t too bad :3

Of course, that isn’t the only game coming out in September! Super Mario Maker is as well–I do have the game preordered, but I’m not sure how much I will play it in comparison to Happy Home Designer. I am a bit sad that it seems the Modern 8-Bit Mario Amiibo will be, at least for a while, exclusive to a Wii U bundle. As I already have a Wii U, I don’t really need the bundle… I just wish this would stop happening considering other regions are getting it by themselves. I loved the Modern more than the Classic (though, both are great) so I’m just super sad it may be a while before I can get one… (at least at a not overpriced amount).

That wasn’t the only Amiibo news though, Woolly World announced that in addition to the 3 Woolly Yoshi’s, there will also be a Mega Woolly World Yoshi Amiibo:
YWW-amiibo-mega-4
I’m pretty sure I need it. It’s a fair size bigger than the normal sized ones:
megayarnyoshi
And one of the big things that have been popping up is people discussing if it’s overpriced or not and to be honest, I’m not really sure. Offhand, I don’t really think it is. But when I compare it to my lifesized Kirby plush that was $50, well…:
lifesizekirby
Regardless, I think I’ll probably end up getting it. But I hope that this is a one-time thing–I wouldn’t want to see many other “Jumbo” versions of things.

Moving onto November, more Amiibo will be coming out that month too. The three pack of Mii Fighters will be out November 1st which I really hope to get and the Mewtwo Amiibo will be out November 13th. November 13th has also been the confirmed day for Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and while you can get Isabelle and Digby with the game, Reese, Cyrus, and K.K. Slider are in a 3-pack:
animal-crossing-3-pack-1024x831
Meanwhile, Lottie, Nook, and Mabel will be sold separately. While I plan to get all of them, I know K.K. is pretty popular and was one of the ones that people wanted by itself. I’m just kind of tired of seeing the 3-packs in a way :( I hope I will be able to get all of them though… As it is, Amiibo Festival is supposed to be free from the eShop… and yet Isabelle and Digby will only be shown with the bundle… You also get 3 cards, but going with the $1 per card and $13 per Amiibo, that’s only about $30. The fact that we have to pay another $30 is… really disappointing. I mean, I prefer physical releases anyway, but if the game really is free on the eShop (over $30), I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed.

Going back to happier topics, on November 20th, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon comes out! I hope I can find lots of time to play it between Thanksgiving and wedding stuff… I know I’ll probably play it a lot during the reception at least.

I also want to bring up Style Savvy 3–while we are still waiting for a release date here in the US, Europe has recently announced that the game will come out for them November 20th which is a huge surprise. I really hope we hear about Style Savvy 3 in the US soon–hopefully in October (as November is busy enough). I’m not sure how I’d be able to decide what to play if it and Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon came out the same day… At the very least, if Europe is getting it, my hopes for the US getting it soon are hopeful. But part of me fears we may not get it until 2016 which is a bit disappointing :(

And just to finish this entry off, the latest Splatfest will be happening this upcoming Saturday! It’s the first North American sponsored one and it’s for Transformers. I don’t really care much for Transformers personally, but I am looking forward to what other sponsored Splatfests could happen in the future. As for who I voted for, well…

(I voted for Autobots :P)

(On a final note, while I don’t want to completely buy into the Professor Layton in Smash rumors, no matter how likely due to reasons, I’m pretty excited at the thought. )

Super Mario Maker, Localization Thoughts, and Happy Home Designer Worries

8 / 16 / 158 / 16 / 15

I’ve been going back and forth on writing this article for various reasons, but as it’s a topic that has been bothering me all week, I figured I’d start. But before we get to the main point, I do want to bring up the recent Super Mario Maker overview trailer:

I’m genuinely pretty excited (I mean, every Amiibo being usable except Mii fighters and most of the Animal Crossing cards is pretty awesome–did not expect the Pokemon ones considering Woolly World), but there is one aspect of this overview that really bums me out–having to wait 9-10 days to get everything. With everything shown and even getting to try the game at E3, I know I’ve certainly had ideas that are now going to be on hold for more than a week after the game comes out. I can only imagine what others had in mind too.

Artificially lengthening a game that is specifically focused on creation is a bad decision because when it comes down to it, most people who just want to focus on the creating are not going to bother. I know it doesn’t seem long in the long run (and 5 minutes a day is going to probably be just me opening it and leaving it there and shutting it off until I’ve unlocked everything honestly. The fact that I can’t even earn those 5 minutes just by playing the game and have to be in the creation screen stinks because I have no interest in even starting up a level until I unlocked everything), but nearly any game with a huge creation aspect has things about sharing saves for someone who is willing to unlock everything for those who want to focus on that one part.

And while yes, Super Mario Maker does have a non-creation part in actually playing levels you and others created, the underlying factor is still all about creation. LittleBigPlanet is another game about creation and while it had its own story mode and other things and thus, creation was just a part of it (although, a big part), it didn’t bother me as much considering there was still a whole story and “normal” Gameplay mode. Even though all parts that were used could be gotten in the game, there is a difference between earning them versus sitting around waiting and not being able to do much. Like if I could play 5 minutes or so of user levels and unlock new parts rather than having to wait on the creation screen for 5 minutes, I’d be significantly less frustrated. But while LBP always felt like a bonus to me, Super Mario Maker forcing this wait feels more like a chore.

I’ve heard similar arguments about Happy Home Designer, but while Happy Home Designer does have a large focus on creativity, the main focus really is helping make Villagers their dream homes. You can revisit at anytime, you unlock a lot of items relating to their theme, and when you get the few that you wanted to add that weren’t there, nothing is stopping you from returning. In fact, it’s actually encouraged–the only way to get bigger rooms for each villager is by doing this a number of times. This gives motivation to it versus just being stuck waiting on a creation screen. If I make a level in Super Mario Maker, chances are I’m not going to go back and re-do it–I’ll just make a new level. That’s not really how things work in Happy Home Designer though.

HHD isn’t perfect, of course. One of the biggest “issues” with the game, in my opinion, is the fact that you can only do one house a day. Whether it be cards or a villager outside, it’s always just one. Even if you choose to remake someone’s house to just add one item, it’ll suddenly be night and you will need to “write about your work” to save. And that’s kind of awful. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to do more than one Villager a day (especially if more than one of your favorites are outside). Similarly, you can only do one lesson a day–each which unlock various items. While revisiting is a large part of the game, I feel there are plenty of reasons to do that (such as unlocking more items from other villagers) without forced expansion of the game. At the very least, the game is not real time so you can easily do multiple in-game days in a day (and hopefully the same Villagers will still be there)–it’s mostly just a minor nitpick.

Of course, while I do have my frustrations with that, it’s not really what my worries are about. To get to that, I want to bring up a simple question: What makes a game too Japanese?
According to a recent interview, a game being “very Japanese” can lead to a large reason of it not even being attempted/it can’t come over. And while I can understand how some games can fit the bill easily like Nikki’s Travel Game which is essentially trivia about Japan, I feel a lot of games don’t fit under the bill as much as they are said to.

And then there are ones that I feel easily do, but somehow have managed to make it over. For example, I often heard of Earthbound being considered to be a “very Japanese game” due to its quirkiness. While some of it was changed for the US, it’s still mostly the same and the game has a fairly dedicated fanbase. Tomodachi Life is another game where it probably fits in the “very Japanese” category–I mean, it literally has a Japanese word right in the name and while the game received an overhaul with a few things (I do still wish we could’ve had that Japanese Folk songs in the concert honestly…)–the food especially, we still received the main core game play. Splatoon is another game that can easily come off as “too Japanese”–Squids are definitely more popular for characters in Japan over America and Inkopolis is strongly based off Shibuya–a popular district in Tokyo, Japan. Despite that, it has done really well and we even received the Squid Girl Outfit which is pretty awesome. And Splatoon isn’t the only game to use Shibuya–The World Ends with You is another game that is filled with several references to Japanese culture around Shibuya and also has quite a dedicated fanbase.

But that brings me to Happy Home Designer which features a number of pretty awesome “very Japanese” items–many of which have been excluded from normal access in the main games overseas since Wild World. I’ve mentioned before how much it has always disappointed me considering the Hinaningyo (雛人形) in the original Animal Crossing game is what started my interest in Japanese culture–an item that I suppose would also be under “very Japanese”, and yet I’m so thankful for.

We rarely hear about a game being “too American” and yet, overseas seems so closed off about having games that may be “too much” in the opposite. Even with games that have plenty, if not all, English dialogue and/or voice acting. “The setting is too Japanese”. “The clothing is too Japanese”. “The attitude is too Japanese”. “Ramen is too Japanese” (I’m looking at you, Ace Attorney). And if you include everything else, but feel the need to change the location, I can’t help but ask “Why?”. (And yes, I am aware that not every game makes it over to Japan, but I feel for a lot of those it’s more based on budget or the game isn’t region locked anyway)

New Leaf even translated every single foreign event. All Japanese items had English names. Everything was possible to get if you knew people with those region games and it makes me wonder why they couldn’t have all been included in the first place. And this makes me worry that we’ll be left out on items in Happy Home Designer too. Will themes change? Will items be completely excluded? Will we get a theme that makes no sense with the items we get due to a change? All because it’s “too Japanese”?

And the thing to keep in mind with New Leaf is not everyone could meet people with other regions of the game. Contrary to belief, not everyone can freely use the Internet. Similarly, some parents can be pretty strict. My family was always very opened to me talking to people and making friends all over the world as long as I kept them up to date, but most people didn’t have that kind of experience. When it comes down to it though, these shouldn’t even be worries. It should be a way to learn about things because it’s so small. And yet these small changes are constantly changed for who knows why considering what comes over as is.

And that brings over the issue of popularity/how many people may want it. Some games do really well, others not so much. That doesn’t make something a bad game. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it. Would it be more worthwhile/money incentive if it was digital only? If people really want the game, they would probably be okay with that. It’s so incredibly hard to see games being given up on. I loved the original Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times and while the second one seemed absolutely amazing, we never got it. Most people never heard of the first game as it wasn’t marketed well here. Treasure World is another game that did some really awesome things that was made by a company that normally just does ports. And yet also didn’t receive another title due to never being heard of.

I know I’m still waiting on any information for the third Style Savvy game–the first two did well–not amazing, but well, and yet there’s still been nothing and I’m not going to lie–I’m definitely scared we may not get it at all. If we don’t hear anything by mid-October, I’ll probably give up hope. But is that game suddenly too Japanese now with all the changes? I mean, they took out an entire shop in the last game…

I just wish “Very Japanese” or “Too Japanese” stopped being an excuse. Use it as a way to let people learn about other cultures. It’s not going to be an end-all for a game. Make it become the norm. Games come from all different cultures and places and they should be an experience to learn, not an excuse to give up on it.
