Disney Dreamlight Valley – Day 0: The Avatar Designer Tool!

8 / 23 / 229 / 3 / 22

To start, for full transparency, I am part of the Dreamlight Creators Program! Because of this, I had access to the Avatar Designer Tool yesterday. All thoughts are my own as always! If you’d rather watch than read or just want to see everything the ADT has to offer, feel free to check out my video on Youtube! For those unaware, today the Avatar Designer Tool released on PC for Steam, Epic, and the Microsoft Store. While the ADT is only for PC users, the ability to transfer your Avatar over will still work for ANY platform the game will be available on. So, you can absolutely play the ADT on Steam and then have your Avatar transferred to the Switch version.

In general, I was so excited about just getting to make my avatar that I had to rewatch the trailer multiple times for everything to fully sink in. For one, it’s pretty exciting I can transfer my character over with essentially whatever I decide to have her wear and we even get a bonus item as well.

We also got our first look at the Founder’s Pack contents– there will be three: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, plus two special rewards for anyone who plays the game during the first week of Early Access. Pre-ordering a Founder’s Pack also contributes to the Wish List Goals for the Community Challenge happening right now until Early Access officially begins (more information on that at the bottom of the post).

That said, more details and prices weren’t revealed until today: $29.99 for the Standard, $49.99 for the Deluxe, and $69.99 for the Ultimate.

The Standard will include: 3 Design Motifs, a Furniture set (9 items), a special jersey and Mickey Ears, and 8,000 Moonstones
The Deluxe will include: The Furniture and Clothing items from the Standard Edition, a Furniture Set (10 items), a Celestial Turtle Companion, a Clothing set (5 items), a special jersey and Mickey Ears, 3 Design Motifs, and 14,500 Moonstones
The Ultimate will include: All Standard & Deluxe Cosmetic items, a Furniture Set (15 items), a Regal Fox Companion, a Dress, a Suit, a Jersey and Mickey Ears, plus 3 Design Motifs and 20,000 Moonstones.
You can find more details of everything on the official FAQ page and by watching the official Founder’s Pack Trailer.

Of the items, the pets are obviously my favorite. I also love the Ultimate furniture set a lot, especially the Piano, Chandelier, and painting. I also really like the Starry Sky motif in the Deluxe Pack and the Golden Pumpkin motif in the Ultimate pack. The dress is very pretty too… but it lacks sleeves and isn’t pink so :P Other item standouts for me are the Mickey lights in the Standard Pack, the Windows and TV in the Deluxe Pack, and the fancy pillars, wallpapers, and tables (both big and small) in the Ultimate Pack, in addition to the items I mentioned earlier. I sure hope I can have all three pets (Ultimate’s, Deluxe’s, and the first week pet) out together though because it’ll be a very hard decision otherwise…

In general, I’m still just hoping there could be an option down the line for people to still access these items, even if they may cost more (or to begin with in regard to items that are essentially free gifts). I know they are currently planned to be exclusive, but honestly, in this kind of game, I don’t think making it so some cosmetics are just permanently out of reach for players that come later is a good move and is something I wish would stop happening. Things can still be special and meaningful without them being made super exclusive.
I’m also really disappointed about a premium currency considering it was initially said there wouldn’t be one (though, supposedly you WILL be able to earn them in the game itself which may not be too bad then). Not to mention the confirmation of a Star Path/Premium Mission Pass-type system and I feel like that is the last thing the game needs :( It’s not relaxing or a go at the pace you want if you need to constantly do things for the pass. I’ll refrain full judgement until I see how the Star Path progresses, but at least right now, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed with that. In general, they are just systems that I have trouble completing to begin with, let alone something that makes a game feel more like a subscription-based game. That said, while I’m really concerned with the Star Path system, I am glad the Founder’s Pack prices are pretty good.

Once the initial surprise of seeing Founder’s Packs being shown off in the opening trailer though, especially after many months of “soon”, it was time to actually make my character!

I will say one thing I’m kind of surprised with is that rather than sliders, it’s 6 body types between one taller body and one smaller body and I’m not sure if everyone will manage to really get a body type they’re happy with. I managed to find something I was mostly happy with, but there’s definitely a few things I’d have adjusted if there were sliders. At the very least, I was happy with pretty much all the other options and considering you can change your physical appearance whenever in the game and everything is unisex, I’m hoping they may even add more options down the line. I also hope we’ll eventually see all color options available for each option as some had less than others.

In the end, I ended up with this look for my character before my journey into the Touch of Magic tool:

The hard part was deciding between the shoes (not only tons of great boot options, but also those adorable Pink Dolly Shoes) and backpacks. I pretty much just went with the boots I initially picked first, but as for why I chose them over the Pink Dolly Shoes… it was simply as there weren’t any Socks/Tights options and I thought they looked weird with the other layering. As for what I’m wearing under the skirt then– you can actually pair pants or shorts under a skirt which is really nice.

The backpack situation was similar where I had already been stuck between the Pink Ita Bag and Brown Artist’s Satchel from their initial previews, but I also really liked the White and Pink Minnie Backpack. I mainly ended up deciding against the last one as I didn’t really like its smaller size. The Pink Ita bag won out in the end simply due to matching more, but I really hope I can get the Brown Artist’s Satchel in the future.

Of course, that’s not the only item I’m hoping to get– so many great items are available through the ADT and due to going with my Touch of Magic Tool outfit, I’ll need to get most of the other items I still liked as well. It might sound weird to be going with the Touch of Magic outfit, but honestly, it took me so long to make it and I don’t trust myself to be able to remake it in a way I feel I’d be happy with. I’m just thankful we can transfer our character’s over at all. I do wish we could’ve had maybe one regular outfit and one Touch of Magic outfit as well though…

It’s definitely not perfect and there’s a lot I’d like to adjust or do better with once the layer moving works properly for me and if I get a better handle on the tools. I’d love to add more of a gradient (and make it pinker in general– I wish there was a nice pastel pink too) and try and shape it out more, but I do think it came out mostly okay at least. I hope we’ll get more options to use the Touch of Magic Tool within the future as well.

Regardless, here’s hoping it doesn’t take me too long to get the Pink “Enchanted Rose” Top, Pink Cropped Cardigan, Red Skinny Jeans, and the Burgundy Gold Lock Skirt. Other clothing items, I also really liked, besides the Pink Shoes and two backpacks I mentioned above, were the Lacy Pink Coat, Gold Rose Earrings, Silver Rose Earrings, Classic Gold Hoops, Simple Gold Bracelets, Fancy Gold Bracelet, Red Reindeer Cinched Scarf, Golden Treasure Medallion, Pink Pleated Skirt, Pink Candy-Laden Skirt, Brown Lace-up Boots (And really… many of the boots), White and Pink Floral Gown, Pink and Purple Long-Sleeved Gown, Rapunzel’s Summer Sundrop Gown (though, I’d love a long-sleeved version), and the Pale Pink Cottage Dress.

There’s also tons of cute furniture items we could check out already as well in the pre-made rooms.

And this isn’t even everything! While there are tons of options with items in the ADT alone, we’ve definitely seen more items in all the footage shown as well, so there’s a lot I’m looking forward to getting still that we don’t see here.

I spent a lot of time making sure I could get a picture with all 8 Characters you can find in the ADT (You can also see a video of my character with each character here too):

How to get each of the 8 Characters:
(Keep in mind, this is likely NOT the only way– this is just how I personally unlocked them)

  • Mickey will show up pretty much with anything, but generally just not wearing something that causes one of the other characters to show up. He’s the default. A quick easy way is to just wear a Touch of Magic outfit.
  • Minnie will show up if you have on Minnie Ears.
  • Ariel will show up if you are wearing either an Off-the-Shoulder Shell Shirt or one of the Officer Jackets.
  • Remy will show up if you have on Remy’s Chef Hat
  • Buzz Lightyear will show up if you have the Cowboy Hat on
  • Anna will show up when wearing Cozy Blue Sweater (under Coats)
  • Simba will show up when wearing a Time Flies shirt
  • Moana will show up when wearing a Heart of Te Fiti Shirt

As cute as it is that a character is picked based off your outfit which kind of encourages a fun experimental thing, I do wish we could just… pick. It’s not as fun for me to put on an outfit I maybe don’t even care for just to get certain characters to show up which kind of ruins half the point of wanting to take a picture T~T Regardless, I still had fun, even if I am absolutely terrible at taking pictures.

Either way, I can’t wait to transfer my character into the full game and finally be able to play ^_^ In the meantime, as mentioned earlier, if you’d like to help get more content into the main game, be sure to check out the Community Challenge! We’re very close to both the Instagram/Twitter Combined Followers goal and the second wish list goal. Every bit can help! As mentioned earlier, pre-ordering the Founder’s Packs ALSO counts towards the wishlist goals.

And to finish this off, here’s a couple of my other pictures I really liked that I took:

Final Community Challenge Update!: Not only did we hit 250K, we made it all the way to 350K! In addition to unlocking all goals, we’ve also unlocked “Housing Skins” which I’m pretty excited for as the lack of house exterior customization was one thing I was worried about.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – A summary of the last several months

8 / 11 / 228 / 11 / 22

In general, New Horizons entries will probably be a bit few and far between due to a combination of my general bummed out feelings with New Horizons, but also, I mainly just want to do HHP stuff which gets exhausting in and of itself due to the lack of any search feature and when you have a full catalog, most of the time spent is just scrolling through items…

Since my last post, one thing I did was poke back in for May Day. Even though the game is no longer receiving updates, I thought it was possible there could be new mazes and dialogue programmed in already like how all the Chinese Zodiac items are for years to come. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The maze was the same as the first (I’m assuming it’ll switch back and forth between the two) with Rover’s dialogue being the same as the second time, making slightly less sense due to the fact that you don’t climb anything in the first maze. I will guess which dialogue you get is a matter of if you met him before or not.

Regardless, I’d be lying if I said his dialogue didn’t still make me rather emotional. I really wish he actually visited our island. I wish so many other missing characters showed up in the first place.

While I poked in a few times after (usually around every 3 weeks on average), I didn’t really do anything until July for my birthday. I had hoped to do a stream of my birthday in-game and some houses, but honestly, my birthday is just a rough time nowadays and I wasn’t feeling well, so I ended up just recording a video instead.

I was also only able to do one vacation home which made me really sad.

Pango – Ultimate Beauty Salon

Regardless, I did my best to make-up for that with my recent stream where I did 11 Houses and even hit the 60 milestone. Of these, I think my favorites were Caroline’s and Melba’s. There’s definitely more I wanted to do for certain things if it wasn’t for the lack of search function.

Dom – House of Gizmos

Octavian – A Window to the Sea

Caroline – Dreamy Country-Ranch Home

Shari – House of Perennials

Melba – Fairy-Tale World

It was here that we hit the 60 Milestone. I’m curious how much more special dialogue there could be. I wonder if anything special happens if you do manage to make a Vacation Home for every character.

Drift – A Vacation Home with a Well

Prince – The Robot Arena

Fauna – My Piano Hangout

Ketchup – Tomato Paradise

Rosie – My Very Own Talent Agency

Nana – A Park for the Peckish

I’m not sure when I’ll play more next, but hopefully I can get more houses done.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Thoughts Reduxe

7 / 29 / 227 / 29 / 22

So, with finally feeling a bit better and just wanting to get it over with, I managed to finally get back to the game. Some things I have learned are that you can aim your ball and catch without using the extreme target which is great if you’re not me and can actually aim with solely a target reticle. I will say, at the very least, I feel more in control to some extent now that I’m not feeling sick. It’s helped make certain things a bit less overwhelming, even if I’m still struggling a bit with it. Unfortunately, as the game went, it felt like each of my nitpicks became bigger and bigger problems and I genuinely stopped having fun. Getting through this game was a chore and I feel bad about it because I feel like everyone I know really liked it. I was repeatedly told how it gets better, it’s fun, and that maybe I’d feel better after talking about my initial thoughts.

I think my biggest issue is I really like to collect things as I go. I like to catch everything I can in that area before moving on. In this case specifically (at least for me), it’s just better to move on with the story and come back after you’ve unlocked more things. Even getting the wisps are easier when you can actually fly instead of finding some odd way up the cliff (and sometimes you just can’t). But as someone who hates backtracking, it kills me. I don’t mind it as much if things just don’t show up until you finish a certain point, but just having to hold off and come back later when it’s right there drives me nuts. It also makes it harder for me to focus on what’s to come when I can’t really do things in sections. Even though Pokemon had a tendency to spawn places, the more open world made it feel much more overwhelming for me and I just… did not enjoy it, even if it was technically more natural.

Similarly, I hate the distortions. I don’t like RNG elements when it comes to Dex completion, so needing to wait for these random spheres to show up where almost everything is aggressive and hope they spawn the Pokemon you need (and enough of them!) isn’t fun to me in the slightest. I hated a lot of the Pokedex completion journey in Gen 7 specifically because of the weird RNG with getting some Pokemon to even show up. And here where multiple Pokemon can be attacking you in these distortions as you hope what you need spawns… is not fun, at all. While I’ve found a way to somehow do them by using grass cover starting from outside and stealthing my way in– that’s not a possible method everywhere and there’s still the general RNG and catch percentages.

I think what really gets me is, like with Let’s Go as someone who really dislikes battling, I had high hopes for being able to just catch everything and it feels like there is always some ridiculous small text disclaimer about how “Oh, but because there are no battles, we’ve added some incredibly annoying features to make it take longer”. I already have Pokemon chasing and attacking me, I don’t need all this RNG on top of it. Let alone annoying grindy extra requirements to even finish the Pokedex page to 10. In the end, I decided to just catch each once and not bother with the 10 completion which does technically bother me, but I was just too disheartened at this point.

I also still find battles very frustrating. I hate the strong/agile mechanic so much and due to them both coming with cons, I didn’t really want to use them unlike ones like… Gigantamax and Z-moves where even though I disliked them, they were easy to just get over with versus here where “Oh, you can do agile, but your moves may be weaker” or “You can do strong, but you may not get another chance to attack” and I never felt confident enough to really gamble on those circumstances. Even when I used it and it worked out, I just felt stressed out about it. It really felt like battles were a trade-off of if you get knocked out or not because Alpha Pokemon do so much, trainers will use those strong/agile moves and even have you fight multiple Pokemon at once, and you don’t get an option to switch out per Pokemon (and it just felt too risky to even do that because next move, a Pokemon could use a Strong move and one-shot them immediately). Nothing felt balanced to me and even with overleveled Pokemon, it still felt like a 50/50 chance if I’d even succeed. I had Pokemon 20+ levels below me using non-super effective moves and still would lose at least half of my HP. It made battling even worse for me and considering how I’ve never even enjoyed it; I didn’t know it was possible to make me like it even less. I know some people enjoy this kind of difficulty, but as someone who doesn’t even really like battles, not feeling even over leveling (sometimes I was over twice the level and still got one-shot) can help me get through them quickly is really frustrating. I would absolutely play a Pokemon game on easy mode.

Meanwhile, having to deal with Space Distortions and Outbreaks for better (if any) chances for certain Pokemon meant a lot of just… constant Pokeball flinging and what was once a decent amount of supplies quickly started to dwindle which meant I had to specifically go looking for crafting supplies. Sure, I could buy some, but not only did the Stores not always upgrade immediately, the main way to earn money is catching things and you also need to buy moves and buy bag slots and things just would add up so fast. It also felt like I just got really unlucky with catch chances which didn’t help. But it’s hard to enjoy foraging when I have no clue where I am going and constantly have to keep an eye on my bag space. And at any time, something may decide I should die and start chasing me when I’m just trying to mind my own business. Eventually, I did get tired of crafting and did start just buying things up, but it always felt like a huge balance. I never felt like I had enough money to go all in on that and my issues with aiming meant I often wasted balls too.

I think the only reason I still kept playing is the story itself. I wanted to see where it went, I wanted answers for certain actions, I wanted to help poor Ingo also find his way back (which at least where I got to, didn’t even happen)… But wow did it not help make the game actually fun to play for me by the end of it. I didn’t even manage to finish all the requests partially because there was no way I was dealing with the battle ones, but I just got tired of it. I suck at exploring enough with a minimap, let alone without one. Part of me does want to try and go back for the post-game and certain collection-related things (The Poems, the last Unown, and the Wisps), but I’m just… tired. I don’t want to battle Pokemon again for the shards, I don’t want to deal with the ultra-hard final double fight in the end, I just wanted to witness the story and get my character home.

I will say while I do like the idea of a lot of the game and found the story intriguing enough, I still think a lot of the execution wasn’t super great for me. Obviously, judging by most of the reviews, I’m in the minority! But I do think I’ll end up skipping on future Pokemon Legends entries unless they manage to feel less grindy and/or I can have a less aggressive/RNG difficulty option. I just hope friends can trade me any exclusive Pokemon in the future because I sure won’t be getting them otherwise.

My Fluffy Life – The Summer Update is here!

7 / 27 / 228 / 1 / 22

So, yesterday morning brought My Fluffy Life’s newest update– for Summer! The update introduces new items (including one new limited store on the laptop), a new side area, and four new minigames. Your little Fluffy can even get a tan. A comparison to how my own Fluffy looked when I started playing the update and when I finished checking things out for now. I have no idea how long the tan lasts though. You can also watch me play through the update over on Youtube.

The first thing I’d recommend doing is checking out the Pool Party store through the laptop. When playing in the Pool area, your Fluffy will wear nothing besides accessories unless they have a bathing suit on– any outfit in the Pool Party store counts as a painting suit. Remember though, you need to wait an in-game day before the items you ordered will arrive! What I usually do ahead of time is have my Fluffy’s energy drained so after ordering, she can go right to bed and wake up to all her new items being there. The Pool Party store contains 15 new items to check out and everything costs Teddy Coins.

The Rollcake Shop and Furniture shop, as of July 29th, also have the new items they were supposed to now! I’m not sure if I like any furniture items more than my current ones (they are very cute though), but I absolutely have a new favorite outfit thanks to the Rollcake Store:

In the end, I did end up changing my table though if only for the cute plush… But I wish I could have them with the table and chair style of the one I was using before:

When you’re ready to start checking out the new minigames, make your way to Gentle Hills which has gotten quite the Summer makeover. The Serene Forest has also gotten a slight update as well.

The first thing you’ll run into is the pool– simply clear the new body of water to enter the pool area where you’ll see other Fluffies hanging out and swimming. There’s also a bottle of sunscreen that you can click to put sunscreen on your Fluffy for increased happiness during the minigame.

To start the game, you click one of the Fluffies swimming to play Beach Ball against in a game that is kind of similar to pong, but you also need to click when the ball gets close to your Fluffy. As far as I can tell, I think it’s impossible for the Fluffy you are up against to lose so you’re essentially just going until you miss the ball.

The next minigame, and the only one you earn Teddy Coins from directly (the other three are all just for happiness), is the ice cream making game that you can access by clicking the ice cream chart. Simply match the ice cream to the picture on the left. You need to click when the ice cream scoop is over the cone. If it’s not the right flavor (or the right flavor for the order needed), simply click when it’s not by the cone to discard the wrong flavor. I do feel bad wasting the ice cream though…

The final game in Gentle Hills is the Juggling game you can access at the Circus Tent. Simply keep clicking the balls to keep them in the air. You start with one, but more will be added over time. You can also head on over to the Serene Forest across the bridge in order to find the Fishing Pole which can be clicked to go Fishing. Just move the fishing line up and down to hook a fish, reel it all the way up, and then click the fish to release it back into the water.

For both the Ice cream and Fishing games, you need to hit the “back” button to exit the games as they have no real “end”. I do wish we could keep some of the fish though… But we’d probably need a really big fish tank.

Anyway, I hope this helps with checking out MFL’s Summer Update! :) I’m not sure how long exactly it’ll last– maybe until Autumn arrives similar to how everything with Spring lasted quite a while and only really the Easter stuff was somewhat more limited.

As a final note, a newsletter has recently been going out to My Fluffy Life players! It always includes a code for an exclusive item so be sure to keep an eye out for those!

Let’s talk more about Disney Dreamlight Valley!

7 / 26 / 227 / 27 / 22

I wrote a post when Disney Dreamlight Valley was first announced about what I hoped would maybe be in the game. Today, a lot of footage dropped including a Gameplay Overview Trailer.

And if I had to state how I’m feeling after all this, well, honestly, my first feeling would be “Overwhelmed”, but after that, I think “Excited” fits the bill. I also feel a lot more optimistic towards the game for reasons I’ll get to further in, even if I do still have some concerns as well (and even one new concern from the recent footage), but for the most part, there’s a lot I’m really excited about.

For one, the character creation is clearly pretty detailed– we had already seen some snips of it in footage, but this is the first we’ve really gotten to see people creating their character with 15 presets and various more in-depth options such as two-tone hair, opacity options for freckles and eyebrows, and various other details.

Even Blush Color and Lipstick can be adjusted and everything is unisex so you truly have the freedom to create the character you want. I know one thing I’m personally very excited for is the fact that right off the bat is a long, wavy, ponytail.

I didn’t see any videos showcase the options from the “body” section, but I’m hoping there will be options for height among other things. This is all considered early beta footage (even more so than whatever Early Access may have) so it’s possible there could even be more in the future. And while it doesn’t look like there will be options for starter outfits (As someone who dislikes jeans, I would’ve liked at least some kind of dress/skirt option instead), I know there’s still tons of customization options actually in the game so hopefully it won’t take TOO long to get an outfit I’m at least okay with. At the very least, you likely will be able to change your appearance whenever as well.

I will absolutely need every single pet. I’m also genuinely really happy to see Hats, Masks, Glasses, Earrings, and Neckwear all having their own categories– while maybe some things won’t be able to overlap, I feel like a lot of games often will allow just one or the other so I’m glad it seems like things will be more flexible here allowing more options. And that doesn’t even take into account the customizing feature that will let you make some of your own designs. It honestly kind of reminds me of Imagine Town and I appreciate how it gives a lot of options for people who may be less artistically-inclined which I feel is a bit of an issue in Animal Crossing. The fact that it seems like even backpacks can be customized really gives me hopes that it may even be possible for everything. This entire outfit was also customized using their customization tool:

If you prefer more interior and exterior design options, of course, there is tons to that as well with a drag and drop system for both furniture inside and outside your house. You can also move any buildings outside wherever you would like whenever you want.

And like with character customization, there’s tons of different furniture types as well. I know I’m especially really excited to mix and match in all facets of the game. I haven’t quite decided where I want to put my character’s house, but I hope to put all my favorite characters near it while putting other characters in areas that I feel fit the theming. Characters move in by paying Scrooge to build a house for them– most buildings you end up making will be done with Scrooge’s help with him taking on a Tom Nook-esque role in the game. I also hope we’ll be able to customize the exterior of our house in some way… I really want a cute pink house.

Going back to the game features themselves, one thing that is my biggest surprise is that the farming system actually sounds fun for me. While I’m sure a lot of people may find it less satisfying, the more simplistic approach actually has me excited for it in a way that maybe won’t feel as much like a constant chore. For one, the watering can is always completely full. No constantly having to head back to refill your watering can. Plants also grow within minutes and while you start off with just only harvesting one, as you level up you’ll be able to harvest more items per plant.

Just the entire idea of being able to water once and being done is such a huge game changer to me for how overly monotonous I tend to find farming in most games, usually being the area I excel the least in trying to progress pretty much any other way. While there was confirmation of crafting furniture and cooking, the more relaxing farming and having a very lovely ponytail has already more than made it worth dealing with, especially feeling like things will be less stressful. As far as I can tell, there’s no inventory limits for materials (in the sense of each caps at some amount) and it seems like even just doing more chore-esque things, such as removing the night thorns, isn’t without its own rewards and surprises. Besides getting money and leveling progress, it seems you can even find recipes as you clear them out which adds a fun surprise element over just getting rid of them because they’re there.

Fishing also seems to have its own kind of spin on a timing mechanic with you timing the ripples to a circle around over just pulling at a sound or doing some… weird back and forth mechanic. While I have seen this mechanic before in games, it is the first time I’ve seen it applied to fishing.

Besides what seems to be the norm at this point in a lot of life sim games, each character in the game will have friendship levels that let you unlock exclusive items (and possibly also quests?) that cap out at 10. I’m especially eyeing that fountain that is a gift for hitting maximum friendship with Mickey. I loved it since we saw it in some of the first footage from the game so it’s no surprise that I’m considering it a priority.

It does seem just doing quests can help raise their friendship beyond just giving gifts, but I genuinely appreciate that it lets you know what items they really like that day over having to keep track and possibly even guess early on what may make them happy.

I’m also happy to say that for the most part, a lot of my concerns with the Free-to-Play aspect felt alleviated watching all the upcoming gameplay. For one, the stamina system seems very forgiving and easy to work with– it goes down as you expect when doing things in the valley such as cleaning up the night thorns, but you can easily replenish it by eating food whether it’s just stuff you harvested from your own garden or around town or from cooking recipes in your own home or with Remy once you unlock his restaurant. It seems that Recipes can both be found in the world as well as just learned from experimentation which is neat too. Your stamina bar will also increase as you level up.

Between crops growing in minutes and the fact that you can play whenever you want, the game feels much more freeing. No worries about it being too late to check the store or being forced to go to bed in-game. You can take your time and just enjoy the game as is. Monetization seems to be solely confined to some vanity items in the shop and expansion passes and seeing the items in Scrooge’s store, clearly they won’t be nerfing any of the items available in-game just for the ones that can be bought for real money.

I also genuinely love the game’s interface from what we’ve seen so far. It looks really great and organized.

I would say my only concern is the rumored “Star Path”– a season pass type of mechanic that was only mentioned offhand in one article and alluded to as a possibility in another video. I honestly can’t stand Season Passes due to rarely having the time (or energy) to put into them and they almost always feel rather costly in the long run, on top of requiring a significant grind. There are some ways I could think it could maybe work (IE: Completing some dailies/weeklies each day levels it and it lasts a full season to give everyone time to do it considering this is supposed to be a relaxing game), but for the most part, I’d really rather it not become an extensive grind no matter how generous the game’s stamina system appears.

We also still don’t know how much the Founder Packs costs will be– considering the brief hinting when I mentioned Gamescom in the Discord though, I’m wondering if we’ll hear pricing then with preorders possibly going up, if not sooner. I just hope they won’t be too expensive and that there won’t actually be tons of exclusives.

Finally, I wanted to talk briefly about the story shown in one of the gameplay videos, so if you want to stay completely spoiler-free, I’d recommend stopping here.

We learn our character has left the city to go back to, what appears to be, their Childhood home which looks very much like the Yellow House we start with in the game. I’m worried our house in-game may even stay this same yellow house (even if it does expand inside) because of that, but I’m really hoping we’ll be able to do something with it considering how extensive all the other customization seems to be.
The game seems to take place in a dream-esque version of the yard where it seems the player character made up their own stories with Disney characters and that the area has slowly overgrown with thorns. When they fall asleep in the yard, they wake up in the “Disney World” and I’m guessing the Player is actually the “missing Ruler”. Whether it’s an isekai situation, all a Dream, or the player just living out their imagination as they clean up and renovate the area in the real world, I’m really curious where the story will go and if it’ll truly have an actual “end” or not. Though, I suppose even if it is, I would assume we can still revisit our friends back in the kingdom whenever we want.

The afterward week of Gamer Christmas

6 / 23 / 226 / 28 / 22

Even though I’ll call it the week, anything else from this month will also be added to this post.

Shacknews Indie Showcase

I hadn’t realized The Big Con’s Grift of the Year update released so I’ll definitely be trying that out. I really enjoyed the game even if I wish there was another option at the end.

I’m also still excited for Love, Ghostie and Lost in Play.

Passing Waters looks really cute. It Kickstarter going on right now and I noticed it has no digital/vanity item Kickstarter exclusives so I backed it immediately.

Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories also looks really good.

Paranormal Detective tempts me every time I see it, but it requires VR :(

LEGO CON

I see why LEGO Bricktales didn’t have its demo up yet. I’m happy I was finally able to check it out.

I know not too much game-wise was shown, but it was still a really fun show to watch. There’s genuinely so many LEGO Sets I’d love to get if I could afford them.

There didn’t end up being too much else, but I think it was still a really fun month regardless. If there turns out to be any last minute things, I’ll update this, but otherwise, I guess that’s a wrap :)

Edit: Of course Nintendo puts their thing super close to the end of the month!! So, to finish things off, here’s our last section:

Nintendo Direct Mini

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes looks really neat, though also a bit haunting. A very cute dog too.

Super Bomberman R2 looks fun, though, I kind of wish it had more maps like Super Mario 64.

Pacman World Re-Pac looks really fun too.

Blanc looks very pretty. I love the art style, but I feel like the story may be sad and I don’t think I can deal with my heart breaking. Let them be happy T~T

I’ve actually never played any of the Monkey Island games, but I kind of really want to try them all out at some point.

Disney Dreamlight Valley continues to look really great. I’m sad Early Access isn’t until September 6th– I really hoped for it to be sooner, but still looking forward to it. Impatiently waiting for when we can just get the Founder’s Pack. Regardless, I noticed a cute coat called the “Lacy Pink Coat” in the trailer which I hope may also have a nice dress in similar colors. I also really loved this hairstyle and hope maybe a longer version of it will exist as well.

Harvestella looks pretty interesting, though, I don’t think it’s fully my type of game.

I was kind of surprised WORTH LIFE wasn’t shown as it’s releasing exclusively on Switch and just got a new trailer yesterday, but maybe it’s because it’s releasing in like 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, on the Japanese version of the Mini Direct, they showed this fishing game which looked really cute? I have no idea what it is, but I kind of hope it comes over.

RPG Time: The Legend of Wright was also shown which I recall seeing before so surprised it also wasn’t included in the English version.

Gamer Christmas Week: Days 4 and 5

6 / 14 / 226 / 16 / 22

We’re on Day 4 now and the last of the “big company” showcases, unless Nintendo finally announces one. Either way, I’m excited to see what comes out of it. This is more or less the final day of the main week, but I figured I’d tie it into the next couple of days anyway due to two of the shows being extensions of ones from these last few days.

Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase

I always appreciate good little Robot friends. And honestly, just relieved it’s not even more zombies… but the movement is still too similar at times.

I get the point of GamePass, but I just… prefer to actually own my games and I’m not really fond of subscription services, even if more and more things keep adding them.

I still really need to get a new Forza game already. That said, while seeing new courses was nice, I don’t think all the details were necessarily needed in the showcase… I’m in a racing game, I’m not going to see how my car is reflecting.

I always like seeing Flight Simulator even though I’ve never actually played it. I may just really enjoy scenery shots. Adding Halo is a bit weird, but you know what? I’d take Flight Simulator: In-game universes too.

I have such mixed feelings on Overwatch 2. The actual gameplay from 1 feels barely different and I honestly don’t care for most of the character redesigns, so it feels like 1 could’ve kept going for PvP and 2 could’ve focused on PVE entirely without also changing so many designs to such an extent. Offhand, D.Va’s may be the only one I really like? Mercy’s new outfit is okay, but I dislike her new hairstyle. Winston’s is also fine, but his is the only one that really looks so similar to his original design and like it was just made more detailed/sleeker. Genji’s is a situation of I prefer the new one, but I don’t really care either way. Others, I’m neutral at best.

I love rock covers of songs. I actually have this one on my playlist too. I still really want to get the Hot Wheels game, honestly.

I always appreciate the cute animal friends in games.

The little Minecraft Fairies were kind of cute.

Lightyear Frontier looks like farming while in a mech and well, if it makes the farming part less tedious than how it feels in most games, I may at least be a bit intrigued.

I genuinely enjoyed the Sea of Thieves song. I actually really liked what I played of it once I figured out what I was doing. One day maybe I’ll get back to it.

I have no interest in Starfield at all, yet want to make a character anyway because I enjoy character creation aspects too much. Ship customization looks neat too. I honestly don’t care much for super expansive worlds though, if only because my navigational sense is trash.

With the whole GamePass focus, I kind of hoped Disney Dreamlight Valley would be brought up, but oh well. This is why I prefer going in without any hopes.

PC Gaming Show

The Constructors looks interesting, but I know I tend to get overwhelmed easily and I kind of suck at balancing needs.

F1 Manager is a lot more complicated than I expected.

I get that it’s in the name, but the one thing I don’t care for in Deceive Inc. is deceiving other players. I think the powers are neat to stealth along even if there are no threats, but I don’t care for a stealth battle royale.

Nivalis looked really interesting. I would make a cute Cyberpunk cafe. I feel like it’s rare to see a Cyberpunk-themed game that doesn’t have a huge combat focus.

Please do not threaten cute puppies. (As a note, all puppies = cute. There is no such thing as a non-cute puppy)

Steam Nextfest

I did not expect Steam to have a bit of an extended thing this year beyond how previous Nextfests have gone. I always end up checking out some Demos each year, so I’m not sure how much I’ll say, but here’s some of the demos I ended up checking out specifically after the Nextfest Event started:

  • NAIAD
  • Potion Permit
  • Spirittea
  • Old Skies
  • Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist
  • Wylde Flowers
  • Pocket Wheels
  • The Lab – Escape Room
  • Escape Room Academy
  • Wildlife Planet: The Incremental
  • FIND ALL 3: Travel
  • Under The Moon
  • Being a Penguin
  • In Sink
  • Travel to GolemPark
  • Courier Tale
  • Whiskered Away
  • Dancing Cube
  • WORDLAND – Let’s Travel
  • Bubble Shot
  • Roxy Raccoon’s Bowling Bash
  • Wigged Out
  • New Year’s Eve Miracle
  • Déjà Drift
  • Gacha Garden
  • Paper Trails
  • Lapin

But I did try several before this too or even in the past so definitely check out the channel or my demo playlist). There are also ones I’ve played in the past that I am still excited for, but did not play the demo again, even if updated. I generally will only do the latter if it was still REALLY early access and I wasn’t won over originally, but not playing it doesn’t mean I’m not still excited for a game.

There are some games I was interested in that said they would have a demo that, at least at the times I checked and while writing this do not, such as Lego Bricktales, but I’ll keep checking back.

Guerrilla Collective 3.5

I feel like for the most part it was just extended trailers of stuff we’ve already seen, so I don’t really have much to say, but I am still excited for things.

Above Snakes’ trailer music was really pretty.

Capcom Showcase

Monster Hunter has shown to just not be my type of game no matter how many times I try, even with its spin-offs, for various reasons, but their preorder bonuses make me wish it was sometimes.

I didn’t really have much to talk about Day 6 due to their focuses, so I guess we’ll just have a belated Day 4 and 5. Anything further I have to talk about from Gamer Christmas month will be in the Afterward Week.

Gamer Christmas Week: Day 3

6 / 11 / 226 / 11 / 22

It’s time for Day 3 which also includes the Showcase I am most excited for: Wholesome Games!! Sure, I play through other games too, but I think everyone can agree most of my stuff is under that label. Regardless, I’m excited for the other Showcases too :) So, let’s begin!

Guerrilla Collective 3

South of the Circle seems interesting, but it also sounds like it may make me cry. I liked the art style a lot. Also, the carnival moment/flashback seems really cute. I really like the prizes, to no one’s surprise.

Slopecrashers looks really cool (pun not intended) and a lot of fun. I’ll definitely have to try out the demo later.

Cassette Beasts has a neat art style. Rytmos also looked really neat.

ARKANOID: ETERNAL BATTLE!!!! I love Block-buster games so much. Don’t care much for the Battle Royale mode, but I am so excited just to play solo, honestly. While Tetris was most people’s main classic, I was actually never much of a fan of it and this has always been my favorite classic game. I love Arkanoid so much.

Nine Years of Shadows is definitely not my type of game, but I honestly love every time it comes up (and not JUST because of the Teddy bear friend). The graphics are so pretty.

I’m still somewhat interested in Spells & Secrets, but pretty much for every aspect outside of the actual combat which seems too big of a feature to actually ignore, though with co-op, maybe it wouldn’t be too bad. More Kickstarter Exclusive cosmetics though :(

I’m not much of a plant person, but Garden In may be the one I’ve ever been most excited for. It reminds me a lot of Flower Town, from the Streetpass games, just even better.

I’ve been excited for Shashingo since I first saw it and seeing more footage has just increased it. I don’t know if it’ll help me learn Japanese or not due to most methods not seeming to work for me, but I know I’ll have fun playing regardless.

Wholesome Games Direct

So, if you remember my “blurb” from last year about Wholesome Games, it quickly became just… a list because there was just SO MUCH so I made some handy-dandy categories this time around to lessen my chance of just saying the same things I always have– if I have any additional thoughts, I’ll mention it! Essentially, anything listed I either feel like I had something neat to say and/or I’m hoping to play it:

Games I only heard about now!:
• Little Bear Chef – I LOVE HIM!!! HE’S SO CUTE!!!

• Melodyssey – Cute music score doggy T~T The game also seems neat too.

• 30 Birds – The playstyle looks really interesting. Intrigued to see more of it.
• Usagi Shima – They’re so cute T~T

• Chicken Journey – This is looks really cute. I love the art style a lot as well.
• ODDADA – I feel like I’d be so focused on placing things, I’d forget about trying to make a nice song. That’s what usually happens when I just want to place cute things.
• Bumblegum Galaxy – It seems interesting and not too… stressful? So I’d be interested to try it.
• Paper Trail – I always find these types of game mechanics interesting. I noticed there was a Demo so definitely trying it later.
• A Frog’s Tale – I genuinely just adore the art style. All the characters look so cute.
• Hamster on Rails – THIS LOOKS SO CUTE.
• Potion Permit – I’m definitely intrigued (And I love the cute dog), but I have no clue how well I’d actually do at the game.

• Olliefrog Toad Skater
• MISKA
• Pine Hearts
• Super Mini Mart
• Toroa – The graphics are so pretty. I love just looking at the scenery.
• FREERIDE – I love personality tests.
• The Courier
• Skye Tales
• Lost Twins II – I love the art style a lot. Also, the cute giant teddy bear at the end. The gameplay looks like a lot of fun.
• Gaucho and the Grassland – I’m definitely intrigued at the least.
• PaperKlay – I love the style of the game a lot.
• Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo

Games I have heard about before:
• Terra Nil – I love the art style so much in this and it looks gorgeous, but I struggled a lot with balancing things even in the tutorial so I don’t know how well I’d do in the full game.
• LumbearJack – I honestly loved playing the demo of this game. It was so fun and I’ve been excited for the main game since.
• Mika and The Witch’s Mountain
• A Walk with Yiayia
• Coffee Talk 2 – I loved the original a lot and really enjoyed the demo of 2 as well so I’m super excited for its release.
• Garden Witch Life
• Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley
• Passpartout 2
• Freshly Frosted – I always think of just how cute it looks every time I see it pop up, but I feel like I’d quickly get overwhelmed.
• Wholesome Out & About – This looks so good. I’ve been looking forward to it since I first heard about it and it genuinely just looks better each time.
• Paradise Marsh – Downloading the demo as we speak.
• Lil Gator Game
• We Are OFK
• Pekoe – I want the Cute Bookshelf in real life.
• Tracks of Thought
• Critter Crops – There’s a lot of things I like in the game, but the battle system had me so nervous and I also run out of room too fast because I feel the need to hoard one of each and there’s variants.
• The Spirit and the Mouse – Another demo I am downloading immediately.
• A Little to the Left
• Kokopa’s Atlas – They said there is a Demo but there is not a Demo yet but when there is I will download it and I will play it.
• Garden of the Sea – If only it wasn’t VR exclusive.
• Kity Builder
• Garden In!
• Petit Island
• Hello Goodboy
• Harmony’s Odyssey
• Love, Ghostie
• Paper Animal RPG – The art style is adorable
• MELATONIN – I love the general Aesthetic and color scheme so much, but I am so bad at rhythm games.
• SCHiM
• Puzzles for Clef
• Bilkins’ Folly
• Lost in Play
• san Zoolin
• Townseek – I actually played the Game Jam version about a year ago now and really enjoyed it. Super excited to see it developing into a full game.
• Bloom – I find it so interesting and it honestly makes me wonder if I should ever get a Playdate. Maybe one day.
• Mossfield Origins

Games I’ve already preordered/backed/own:
• Mail Time
• PuffPals Island Skies – Possibly one of games that has had me the most conflicted that I’ve ever backed. It was very much a “this has so many things I like and so many of my friends are getting it/recommended it”, but it had some of the worst Kickstarter Exclusives I’ve seen with how expensive they were. And in a game that highlights collecting as a feature to the game, making it exclusive to a Kickstarter is insane to me. People act like vanity items are no big deal to make exclusive or tons of micro transactions in, but for games like these– where they’re wholesome and relaxing, customizing is SUCH a huge deal, and it blows my mind that people just don’t realize how much of an issue it is to keep restricting things like that. I could at least forgive microtransactions if they are at least permanent and not too pricey, but when you have $50 for a house exterior, it’s hard to not be disappointed.
• Calico – I finished the game a while back now so I can’t wait to check out the updates with the Pawsome Edition when it releases.
• Ooblets – I’ve been playing Ooblets since Early Access began. I can’t wait for the full version and to hopefully finally get Rockstack!! I’ve already noticed so many new things. I can only imagine how much stuff 1.0 contains.
• Here Comes Niko! – I actually finished the game very recently. Super excited for the DLC. Gary’s Garden looks gorgeous.
• SkateBIRD – I really need to get back to it. I’m so bad at the controls though. ALSO THAT IS NOT A BIRD, GAME.
• Kitori Academy – Still kind of bummed it also went Kickstarter Exclusives, but excited for it otherwise.
• Snacko
• Lonesome Village

Even with categories, this list is pretty insane. I was so overwhelmed in the end regardless. T~T

Also my thoughts on the cute animations in the middle in order as it went:
HOW COULD YOU PUT “TO BE CONTINUED” THERE AND LEAVE THE SAD BUNNY??? T~T
Oh… it’s continuing through… hopefully we eventually get a name. I think I would just like it as one consistent thing though.
Oh thank goodness, they met up together in the end afterall and everything worked out.

Future of Play Direct

Intrigued by Hill Agency: Purity/Decay. Need to see more of how the game plays out.

Cook Serve Forever also looks interesting. The food looks so pretty.

I really love OU’s art style and music.

Sizzle Reel time– Standouts for me were Midnight Girl and Circuit Superstars. Still intrigued by Loddlenaut too.

Future Games Show

Tray Racers looks really cute. I love the art style. I hope you can customize a character and also somehow have a pet Phog.

The music in Wildmender’s trailer is so pretty.

The Sizzle Reel transistions feel a bit off though.

Turbo Golf Racing looks interesting. It feels like Rocket League crossed with Golf with friends.

Alaskan Truck Simulator looks neat. I’m not great at survival elements though.

I try not to mention the same game more than one per post, but I’m just really excited for Puzzles for Clef and really enjoyed playing through the demo earlier this year.

This Rain Will Never End looks really interesting as well. I do love mystery solving.

I don’t even drink alcohol, but Brewmaster looks kind of fun regardless.

I loved the cute little Hedgehog in the Bramble the Mountain King trailer. I get spooked too easily to play, but it definitely sounds really interesting from a folklore perspective.

I really enjoyed when I played Once Upon a Jester a while back. Still excited for it.

Bright Memory Infinite isn’t my type of game, but I appreciated the pink weapon skin option. All the outfits shown looked like downgrades though.

Tinykin was another demo I really enjoyed, though I couldn’t finish due to running into a bug. I always felt bad exploding the red Tinykins since they disappear after.

Sizzle Reel Standours for me: Dinkum, MythBusters: The Game, Shadows of Doubt

F1 Manager 22 looked really interesting as well.

Planet of Lana’s music continues to be super pretty.

Snufkin looks so good. Another game I’m excited for.

I genuinely love a lot of PalWorld’s creature designs, but the game mechanics just aren’t really for me…

I was already excited for today and it still blew me away. The shows were all really packed and there’s just so much I’m excited for. I think the only thing that could’ve made today better was if Disney Dreamlight Valley showed up too. Hopefully we’ll get some Early Access/Founder’s Pack date/pricing news soon.

Anyway, I’m off to go play a whole bunch of game demos. I noticed some aren’t up yet despite mentioning a demo, but maybe they’ll be up in a few days when Steam Nextfest starts.

Gamer Christmas Week: Day 2

6 / 10 / 22

We’re officially onto Day 2 and have several presentations to look forward to today :) Tomorrow will be Day 3 and then it’ll either be Day 4 or combined with Day 5 depending on how much I think there is to say and then we just have the Afterward Week to finish everything off.

IGN Expo

Ground Divers looks interesting, but I definitely tend to not be too great at those types of games. The graphics are so cute though and the base decorating looks fun.

SacriFire looked really pretty. I loved the art style.

Quiet Farm went off the rails so fast. I also really loved the music in the Ship of Fools trailer.

Gori Cuddly Carnage’s theme constantly reminds me of Zombie Ate my Neighbors.

I really love the artstyle of Coral Island, but it also went the exclusive digital items in the Kickstarter route :(

I played Roots of Pacha’s demo yesterday and really enjoyed it despite my utter failure at time management. I need to see if I can still use the code “Smiley” despite finishing the demo.

Super Zoo Story looks really neat. That said, the art style looks so similar to Stardew Valley, I’m surprised it’s not the same person.

Dinkum is still looking really neat. May want to look into Early Access.

I really just want to say how nice it was to mostly just have game after game over tons of interspersed skits in between. The waiting music is all really catchy too.

Netflix Geeked Week: Gaming

Desta: The Memories Between looks really interesting. I’m not sure how good I’d be at the gameplay mechanics though…

Poinpy’s art style is really cute.

Wild Things Animal Adventures looks very cute too, but I just… do not enjoy match 3 games and getting to decorate doesn’t help bypass how exhausting that type of game mode is for me.

We finally got to hear more dialogue in Sonic Prime. It was nice to see Big and Froggy too. I hope we’ll see more of the characters.

Seeing Spiritfarer just made me cry all over again.

Hello Kitty Happiness Parade looked cute, but I wish we could have seen more of it besides in the sizzle reel.

Epic Games Store Summer Showcase 2022

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria looked interesting. I might just want to explore with friends.

Shoulders of Giants also looked interesting despite me not being a huge combat person.

I should consider trying out Disney Speedstorm. It looks really neat.

Fall Guys’ trailer just makes me want to explore the Fall Guys world and let my bean have their own little house and stuff.

Freedom Games Showcase

I liked the Chicken that popped up at the end of the intro.

I really loved Monorail Stories’ Demo. I’m not sure if I’d play multiplayer (maybe with my husband, but…), but I had a lot of fun even by myself. I remember my one worry being just accidentally progressing before I did everything I wanted to. Apparently, the game also has Kickstarter going for a few more days so I’ll have to take a look at that too.

I really like Wipeout and Ninja Warrior so I find Against All Odds pretty interesting in theory, but not super fond of the whole torn apart and blood going everywhere part. Can there be a version censored like the Deadpool 2 family version? I’d play that one.

Chicken friend has now been joined by equally cute cow friend.

Seeing more of One Lonely Outpost continues to make me fairly interested, but some parts make me so nervous because I just expect to fail entirely.

CUTE LASER TEDDY BEAR.

And another Day all done! While today was fun, tomorrow is the day I’m especially excited for and it should be quite the packed day.

Gamer Christmas Week: Days 0 and 1

6 / 9 / 22

Day 0 is partially because while it is a new week, I would say Thursday is technically the actual start. Either way, it’s time for more conferences– I would say I don’t have any actual things I’m hoping to see beyond maybe the date for Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Early Access, but otherwise, I’m just here to enjoy the ride :)

As always, while I do watch everything, I didn’t include anything where I just found I didn’t have much to say.

Black Voices in Gaming

Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess reminded me a bit of Megaman Starforce with the gameplay style. I always find recruiting mechanics pretty fun (and feel the need to recruit everyone), though, I’m curious if there is a limit to how many you can recruit.

OTK Games Expo

Neodash looks really cool. I just really like racing games, okay?? I hope I can have a pink car.

ARTO seemed really interesting. I’m not sure if it’s necessarily my kind of game, but the concept itself was really cool.

I was also intrigued by Below the Stone. While I’m not too big on the actual combat parts, I just… like the idea of just digging, exploring, and collecting stuff. Regardless, since it describes itself as a “punishing pixel art roguelike”, it may be a bit too much for me.

Every time Dorfromantik shows up, I find it show intriguing, but I feel like I tend to be so bad at these types of games, I’m not sure how well I’d do. The graphics are so pretty though. And I do love building cute worlds.

Cat Box Paradox also looked really cute (and the name is fun to say), but I know from past experiences how bad I can be with quick switching– I just so easily panic and hit the opposite of what I need to every time.

Fueled Up looks neat, though also very hectic. Could be fun to play with my husband though. After trying the demo though, I’m kind of scared of how much harder it can get. It’s definitely something that just… really does need more people despite being playable with less.

RoboCo also looked really cute. I really enjoyed the trailer music as well.

Ages of Cataria looks really interesting, though I think I’d cry every time someone passes away. I have no idea how I’ll decide between Humans or Elves for the Ancestry though… Why can’t I pick both? T~T Though, knowing there’s Crowd-funding exclusives is really disappointing. I really hate when games do that :/ I feel like a lot of Developers just completely overlook how much people enjoy customizing things and collecting stuff and having those time limited is a huge way to alienate those players.

Still excited for Harmony’s Odyssey. Have been looking forward to it since I first played the Demo.

Escape Academy was another Demo I played and really enjoyed. The only real complaint I had was that it’s split screen when I think screen in screen would’ve worked better or being able to toggle the split screen on and off. I did like seeing what he picked up, but it just took up so much of the screen that it felt obtrusive more often than useful.

I think the biggest surprise for me though was that this Showcase was actually 5 hours. I don’t think any other one will be as long unless it’s a bonus gameplay showcase after the initial presentation like Nintendo Treehouse.

Summer Games Fest Kick-off

For the most part, there hadn’t been too much I was interested in. I was surprised to see a Goat Simulator 3 though… I don’t think there’s even a 2. 3 feels a lot more violent though over just… silly chaos.

Midnight Suns still looks interesting, but I feel like we haven’t seen enough gameplay to really see how it all works.

Still really intrigued by Zenless Zone Zero from a mystery standpoint, but no clue if the gameplay will be fun for me or not by the glimpses alone.

Even if mostly nostalgia, I honestly always love seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pop up.

Saints Row has never really been my type of game, but I appreciate all the customization options.

Day of the Devs

Planet of Lana looks so pretty. I really love the music and the cute little pet.

Still really excited for Escape Academy. The rat being called Tumeric is so cute. The game comes out 4 days before my birthday so definitely probably going to pick it up for it.

A Little to the Left is another game I’m really looking forward to. I am very excited to earn badges. I hope there will be a way to unlock past daily ones though incase you like… can’t play every day.

Bear & Breakfast and Naiad are still looking really great too. There’s just so many good games coming out.

Roots of Pacha has actually been on my Steam Wishlist so I’m excited to try out the demo to get a better idea.

SCHiM still looks really fun too. I hope the timing won’t be too tight on some of the jumps though.

Birth intrigues me for the same reasons A Little to the Left does, but it also feels a little unsettling and I’m not entirely sure how to take it just yet from the trailer alone.

Even though this was kind of short, it was honestly really solid and may be my favorite thus far.

Devolver Digital Direct

I will never understand Devolver Digital’s skits at any point.

The Plucky Squire looked pretty interesting. I really love the art style.

Not entirely sure what I think about Skate Story, but it looked really interesting. This Penguin also looked really cute:

I guess I liked the Robot… And the end song was okay. This was probably the best one thus far if only because of the lack of over the top violence/gore, but these are still so weird.

And that finishes up the last of the first week and the beginning of Not!E3 aka Gamer Christmas. Excited to see what else this week holds.
